'The Conners' Season 2 Episode 2: Will Darlene come clean about her dirty little secret to David and Ben?
The Season 2 premiere of 'The Conners' got right to the juiciest stories within the household - from Becky's (Lecy Goranson) premature pregnancy to Darlene's (Sara Gilbert) secretive affair with the father of her children. While the rest of the world presumes that she is still dating Ben (Jay R. Ferguson), Darlene has been having a torrid affair with the newly single David (Johnny Galecki), who seems to believe that he is the only man in her life.
The mother-of-two was given two choices at the end of Season 1 - move to Chicago with her boyfriend and start a new life, or stay in Lanford and pursue a relationship with her childhood sweetheart, who also happens to be her ex-husband and the father of her children. Clearly, Darlene wasn't able to make up her mind and decided to pursue both in the hope that along the way she would figure out who is a better match.
The fans of the OG 'Roseanne' show may still be rooting for Darlene and David to get back together, but the more recent fans of 'The Conners' definitely seem to understand that Ben is the obvious choice. Both love Darlene, but Ben has the maturity and sense of accountability that David clearly lacks. In the end, however, it seems pretty certain that Darlene is going to lose both men if she continues to string them along and cheat on them at the same time.
Of course, she has too many things on her plate, with her sister needing her help with the newborn, and her daughter getting into some major trouble at school; but we wonder for how long these reasons would excuse her from not being open with the two men. It remains to be seen if she will come clean about her dirty little secret anytime soon, but the upcoming episode, 'A Kiss Is Just A Kiss', which will air on Tuesday, October 1, on ABC, may give us a clue.
