'The Biggest Loser': Former beauty queen Teri Aguiar joins show to get healthy and drop the pounds
It was 1999 and Teri Aguiar had just won the coveted Miss Missouri beauty pageant, but this wasn’t her first crown. Teri had already bagged Miss Illinois Teen USA in 1990. The beauty queen soon turned to nursing and worked as a nurse in a children’s hospital and later became a flight nurse in 2000.
Everything seemed to be going great for the pageant queen when she got married to former NFL punter Louie Aguiar. They soon had two kids and this is when things took a different turn for Teri. Up until now, she took meticulous care of herself, her new role as a mother meant that she had to cater to her kids as a newly single mother while balancing her career, which left her with little to no time to take care of herself.
This soon began reflecting on her body. She steadily kept racking up the pounds and voila she was suddenly 256 pounds. This was when she also realized that her weight was sort of becoming a concern for her at her job as a flight nurse, where she was responsible for transporting critically ill people in air. In an article she wrote for Women’s Health magazine, she explained how each pound of her body weight was detrimental to her work. She wrote, “The heavier I’ve gotten, the more I’ve had to worry about how my weight could affect our helicopter missions, where added pounds are a major safety factor.”
This is when Teri decided that she needed to do something about her weight and strive to get back to her healthier self and this led her to ‘The Biggest Loser’. On ‘The Biggest Loser’ Teri alongside 11 other contestants will be trying to get healthier through a holistic approach of exercising, consuming a balanced diet and most importantly focussing on their emotional well-being, This season of ‘The Biggest Loser’ will not just be about losing weight, but to get healthy. Bob Harper will be hosting and mentoring the contestants, while new trainers Steve Cook and Erica Lugo will be helping the contestants reach their health goals.
You can catch up on Teri Aguilar’s journey on the reboot of 'The Biggest Loser', which is all set to hit the screens on Tuesday, January 28, at 9/8c only on USA Network.
