Who is Patty James? Meet 'The Bachelor' star Matt James' mother who has played the role of a father in his life
Matt James might be very close to Tyler Cameron. Before he was cast as the lead for Season 25 of 'The Bachelor', Bachelor Nation fans knew him as Tyler's best friend as well as Clare Crawley's suitor, but that didn't materialize because of Covid-19.
It was also during the pandemic that a revolution took place among BN fans who slammed the 19-year-old show for lack of diversity. This was when ABC Network took a decision to announce Matt as the franchise's first Black Bachelor.
His journey to find love began on 'The Bachelor' on Monday night (January 4) and audiences will be able to watch how that fares for him. However, there's a very important person he began this journey with, by his side and it's none other than his mother, Patty James.
People who have been following Matt on Instagram know that he loves his mom and photos with her dominate his feed. Here we tell you more about who Patty is and her importance in Matt's life.
Matt grew up with his older brother John in North Carolina where Patty raised them. He has been very open about his growing up years from which his father was "absent", even speaking about it in detail in his Wake Forest Magazine article. Patty has slipped into the role of both parents and Matt acknowledged the same in an Instagram post. He wished Patty on Father's day, reiterating that his father's absence doesn't affect him because his mom has filled that void with ease.
Tyler Cameron further went on to prove that Patty is the most important person in Matt's life. On being asked what kind of woman is Matt looking for, Cameron had a quick reply where he stated, “Look for someone who kinda resembles his mother."
Matt has admitted having never been in love and Chris Harrison has made it his life's mission to change that. With him as well as Patty by his side, it does look like Matt will successfully find what he's seeking on the show but will his mother influence his decisions? Will Matt be able to make a choice for himself or will he settle for what his mom chooses for him? We'll have to wait to find out.
'The Bachelor' airs Mondays at 8 pm ET on ABC.
