The second season of 'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' had a rather bittersweet, yet oddly satisfying conclusion, that probably many fans won't be entirely happy with. At the beginning of Episode 8, a deranged Libby Hatch (Rosy McEwen) holds a knife to John Moore's (Luke Evans) neck, and demands that Sara Howard (Dakota Fanning) reveals the whereabouts of her daughter, Clara. In panic, Sara does, and John manages to overpower Libby. She is taken to a cell, henceforth.

However, Sara and John are disturbed to know that she is being tortured in the cell. Kreizler (Daniel Bruhl) advises Sara to go inside, and talk to her. Sara breaks through to Libby and sees the emotional, broken and traumatized woman that she actually is. On the promise of showing her Clara, she gets Libby to reveal where she has hidden the other baby. Libby yields and tells her. Much to her chagrin, Sara goes back on her promise as she knows that she can't show Clara to her biological mother. Libby rages, and her lover Goo Goo Knox (Frederick Schmidt) incites a bloody riot that tears the prison apart. Our crazy criminals escape (once again) and for the last time.

Libby rushes to see Clara, who is quite terrified of her mother at this point. Marcus Isaacson tries to stop Libby, but Goo Goo shoots him down after delivering a punch to his twin brother Lucius. It's painful to see Marcus go out like that, and Lucius holds himself responsible for not pulling the gun in time. Yet, he gets his shot at redemption again and shoots Goo Goo, when Sara and John close in on Libby. Finally, Libby is arrested (wow that took a while).

What becomes of the John-Sara-Violet love triangle? Well, turns out that Violet is pregnant, and so... that throws the spanner in the rosy dreams of a John-Sara reunion. John has always wanted a family, and a heartbroken Sara bids him goodbye. However, Sara doesn't quite need a man, and shows that she can handle everything on her own and delivers an empowering speech to the women of her detective agency. She is left alone as even Kreizler has decided to take a step forward in his relationship with Karen Stratton and leave for Vienna.

This leaves a chance for a possible Season 3, and we couldn't be more excited about it. 'The Alienist: Angel Of Darkness' is a TNT show.
