Catelynn Baltierra has had a rough childhood but she never thought that the thing that affected her mental health most was giving up her first child, Carly, for adoption. Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra had Carly when they were teenagers and the two had decided it would be best to give her up for adoption.

In the latest episode (April 21), Catelynn admitted that she never thought of adoption being a traumatic experience until she realized how big of a deal it was. She admitted that giving someone a child that one was carrying could be a traumatic experience for anyone and agreed she failed to see it for a long time.

Adoption had been a sensitive topic ever since Catelynn first got pregnant and it became a topic for a fallout she experienced with her mother, April Brockmiller. April never wanted Catelynn to give up the baby. She thought there were only two options — keep the baby or have an abortion. However, Catelynn's final decision caused a dent in their relationship.

The latest episode saw the mother and daughter duo coming closer as they mend their past relationship. Catelynn admitted she was happy to see how far they had come in the relationship but admitted she was hurt with what had happened in the past when the adoption topic was going on.

April hinted she was upset in the past about not finding out things from Catelynn herself while adding she was pleased with how things have changed. April also reflected how she did not have a good relationship with her mother and that was carried on for her idea of motherhood.

Catelynn revealed it was a generational trauma that could not be controlled until one broke the cycle. However, April assured Catelynn she had nothing to worry about as she suggested Catelynn had done a good job at making sure the cycle is not continued.

Catelynn also revealed she does not regret giving up her first child for adoption because at that point she did not know how her future would turn out to be. She admitted that the past circumstances have made her believe that she made the right decision.

'Teen Mom OG' airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on MTV.
