Rarely has the terrifying story of serial killer Ted Bundy been told by women. Save for perhaps Ann Rule's 1980 book 'The Stranger Beside Me' about the killer, with whom she worked and even considered a friend. The book told the story of how Rule met Bundy when he was a psychology student at the University of Washington following which their friendship grew deeper after they started working at the crisis center. It also discusses how his superficially respectable persona and good looks kept away from the radar of suspicion.

Other than that, the story of Bundy has largely revolved around the dramatizations of his crime such as the movie 'Extremely Wicked, Shocking Evil and Vile', the Netflix documentary 'Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes' and the first episode of Investigation Discovery series 'Mind of a Monster'.

This time around, Amazon Prime has set out to document his story differently. 'Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer' tells the story of the notorious killer through the women who were lucky enough to live to tell his tale.

Release date

'Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer' will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video from January 31, 2020.

Plot

According to the official synopsis of the series, 'Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer': "For the first time, Ted Bundy’s long-term girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall, her daughter Molly, and other survivors come forward to share their experiences with unsettling new details about Bundy, the pull he had on women and an abundant archive of never-before-seen family photos."

Cast

The docuseries features Bundy's long-term girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall and her daughter Molly. They tell the real story of Bundy and their memories of him. The series also features videos of Ted's other victims and the power he had on women. Other women featured in the documentary include the only female on-air reporter in Utah of the time and the only female police officer in her academy class. The docuseries will also include archival footage of Ted Bundy.

Creators

Directed by Trish Wood

Wood is an investigative journalist, interviewer, and producer focusing on crime and justice issues. For the last decade, she has been involved with successful shows in that genre such as 'Murder in Paradise' and 'Cold Blood'.

Trailers

In the chilling trailer, Bundy's former girlfriend Elizabeth Kendall says, “This story has been told many times by men. Now is the time to talk about our own story from beginning to end, because we lived, and so many people didn't.”

In the 70s, at a time when women were taking to the streets to fight for their rights, liberation, and agency, the Prime docuseries examines how Bundy raped and murdered women. It seemed like the world was only just opening up with hundreds and perhaps thousands of possibilities when the vile Bundy attacked. "You're starting to feel like you can do anything, when all of a sudden, you get walloped," a woman says in the documentary.
