'Tale of the Nine-tailed' Episode 5 Promo: Gumiho and Ji-ah's romance blooms but Lee Rang has other plans
Thanks to Lee Rang's (Kim Beom) splendid planning, Ji-ah (Jo Bo-ah) ended up in a dangerous situation that forced Lee Yeon (Lee Dong-wook) to risk everything in 'Tale of the Nine-Tailed' Episode 4. Lee Rang ensured that he removed the talisman that his half brother Lee Yeon had given to Ji-ah before he headed to the underworld to get punished for killing a human. Sure, the shaman was a disgusting and evil specimen, however, killing is off limits and that is what Lee Yeon's punishment is for. He doesn't mind being punished for a week in the underworld, however, the moment Ji-ah begins to get haunted by spirits, Lee Yeon's seventh sense or fox's instincts as we'd like to refer to it, is awakened.
He ends up risking his life by going to the Underworld of Knives where he crosses a bridge with sharp knives flying at him from all directions just to make sure that he can be by Ji-ah's side a tad bit faster. Sure, he saves her from falling to her death, but in the process, he is injured and Ji-ah is shocked to see him so. In the promo of the upcoming episode, we see things turn romantic between the gumiho and Ji-ah. She nurses his wounds and when Lee Yeon does wake up, he is sure that his Ae Eum is none other than Ji-ah as he remembers the yeowu guseol hidden in Ji-ah's tears that appeared the night that she was attacked.
However, before it could go any further, Lee Yeon's fellow mate, another fox who works as a veterinarian appears and ruins the mood. Sure, he doesn't intentionally try to ruin things for Lee Yeon, unlike Lee Rang. Ji-ah also begins to feel closer to Lee Yeon after all the times that he saved her from otherworldly horrors that she could have very well fallen prey to. She is an independent, smart and secure woman, but how could she even fight spirits, nightmare monsters, and a variety of other creatures that cannot be killed or avoided through normal means? So the appearance of Lee Yeon is something that she is extremely grateful for and this turns into romantic interest very soon.
In the meantime, we wonder if Lee Rang really plans on ruining his brother. Wouldn't helping the Imoogi from whatever prison that it is in at the moment be crossing a line that he cannot return from? While it is understandable that Lee Rang might be upset over his brother abandoning him and even attempting to kill him, what we cannot get over is the fact that there is even a slight chance of Kim Beom's character being the villain.
'Tale of the Nine-Tailed' will be aired on tvN on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10.30 pm KST and can be streamed on Viki Global.
