Before there was PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ and BTS, there was BIGBANG. The iconic second-gen boy group was dubbed by their country as the ‘Kings of K-pop’. And along with other K-pop groups of that time like 2NE1 and Wonder Girls, they were responsible for gaining a foothold in the Western music industry. They had several iconic hits like ‘Fantastic Baby’ and ‘Bang Bang Bang’. However, they haven’t had a proper comeback since 2016.

BIGBANG made history by winning the first Worldwide Act award at MTV EMAs and was the first Korean act to chart on Billboard 200 and had quite a successful run. But they had to go on a hiatus following the mandatory military service. Well, it looks like 2021 is the year for the second-gen to make a comeback. From SHINee, 2PM and CL releasing new albums to Girls’ Generation reuniting, fans who have been a part of K-pop since the early 2010s are excited. And since the first half of 2021, there have been rumors circulating that BIGBANG might be finally coming back. And T.O.P’s latest post has done nothing to quench the rumors.

In August 2021, on BIGBANG’s 15th anniversary, some of the members came online to celebrate. Daesung captioned his post as “My forever VIP, thank you. See you soon. I pray.” And with them renewing their contract with YG Entertainment last year, fans hoped that it meant that BIGBANG would be having a comeback soon. And two weeks ago, VIPs (BIGBANG’s fandom) started wondering if the group was working on an English album.

G-Dragon mentioned that he was working on the group’s next album in an interview with Dazed Korea. And then Daesung was seen studying English by reading ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. On September 6, T.O.P took a selfie with producer and CEO Josh Abraham who has worked with the likes of Linkin Park, Pink and Shakira. The K-pop idol has also met up with other American producers like Scott Storch, Steve Lobel and songwriter Brian Lee who has co-written for Post Malone, Lady Gaga and more.

T.O.P's latest Instagram post sparks comeback rumors

The group was supposed to reunite by performing at Coachella in 2020. After that was canceled, YG announced that G-Dragon would be going solo soon. And on September 20, 2021, T.O.P has stirred VIP Twitter by posting a photo on Instagram with his new blond hairdo. It is not unusual for K-pop idols to change their hair color and styles to launch a new era as they gear up for the next comeback. And this is why fans think that T.O.P’s photo is a spoiler for BIGBANG, a sub-unit with G-Dragon or his solo comeback.

Since the Instagram selfie, excited VIPs have been trending BIGBANG with reaction memes and posts like, “Everytime non moots see us clowning a comeback over a selfie,” “Ok enough overthinking we got our mirror selca with a dyed hair that's more than enough for a vip standard,” and “Bigbang #1 for an hour and a half after seunghyun’s picture. nah, that country is so freaking ready for a comeback.” One fan wondered, “Okay but WHAT IF the platinum blond hair means GD&TOP Vol 2 – |.” Another tweeted, “WAKE UP EVERYONE T.O.P solo is comiiiing He dyed his hair white.” “BIGBANG IS ABOUT TO COME SHOW ALL THESE GROUPS WHAT THEY SHOULD’VE DID IN THEIR ABSENCE. ITS JUST SO FUNNY!” said one fan.
