Supernatural Season 15 Episode 2: Jack's not Jack, Cas is 'okay, but...' and God is AWOL again

'Supernatural' Season 15 premiered Thursday night and took us back to the graveyard where Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles), Castiel (Misha Collins), and Jack (Alexander Calvert) took on God (Rob Benedict), and as expected, lost. Not only did God kill Jack, but he has also brought back every soul from Hell back to Earth, with a grave invitation: "Welcome to the End."

Sam and Dean have decided to clean up Earth the best way they know how - killing every supernatural creature that poses a threat to humanity. It is not an easy task, but we know that if anyone is up for it, it's the Winchester brothers. They still have Cas by their side and a new low-ranking demon, who was thrown out of Hell as well and has now decided to take over Jack's body.

He seems to be friendly enough, and working for the same cause as Sam and Dean - for now at least - but Cas has no interest in keeping him around. The angel is taking the death of Jack very hard, and he sees the demon inhabiting his body as an abomination. However, he is putting up with it for the greater good for now. We know the show enough to know that Jack will come back before the series finale, but the trio is mourning his death for now, and it's nice to have Calvert play a more fun, cavalier character on screen.

Dean and Sam seem to prioritize killing everything that has clawed its way back into the world before addressing anything else, including Jack's death. Even though Cas is going along with everything, he is not doing well, and Dean refuses to acknowledge that. After all, Jack's mother trusted him with Cas before she died and the weight of that responsibility along with his love for the boy is too much for him to handle. However, when he tries to tell that to Dean, he ignores it, and only cares about the okay part in "I'm okay but..." that Cas tells him.

Meanwhile, God seems to have disappeared again after wreaking havoc. As Sam describes in the episode, this is what God does, he writes a story gets bored with it and goes AWOL. And, for once, Sam and Dean can truly have free will, instead of working within a maze of God's making. This is the attitude with which the Winchester brothers are moving forward, so we are quite excited to see how they are going to contain the risen souls from attacking humans, and how they are going to go against death after all the loss that they have endured.

Watch Season 15 Episode 2 of 'Supernatural', which airs on Thursday, October 17, to find out their next move.
