In an episode that was surprisingly calm, 'The Heroes' Journey' took two very "normal" Winchester brothers Sam and Dean to an old friend, Garth Fitzgerald, and for once, it was Garth who did all the saving. After pissing off Chuck aka God, Sam and Dean find that they've been stripped off any hero juju and that they've become painfully normal.

Their luck has run out, and they're struggling to function — from credit cards that have never declined to suddenly having 17 cavities, the brothers have no idea how to deal with it. Meanwhile, Garth gives Dean a call and tells them he needs help. His wife Bess's cousin, a werewolf, was left for dead and had been slashed by a monster and it leads them down to an underground fight club for monsters. The brothers barge in as usual, but this time because they're so normal, they get caught to fight till death.

Fortunately, Garth is still a werewolf and much stronger than the boys and he rescues them and blows up the place and gets the brothers a new spark plug. Yup, Chuck is also potentially behind Baby breaking down.

This encounter with Garth was special, to say the least. We learn that the once insecure Garth has turned his life around and is practicing his dream of being a dentist while making werewolf babies with Bess. It's nice to see him happy. He's like a superhero choosing to live a normal life with no regrets while also going out of his way to help his friends in their time of need. The brothers have always been saving the world for so long and for the show to bring us to a point where their friends return the favor is just super emotional and sweet.

Moreover, it almost seems like Chuck is trying to get Sam and Dean to see what a normal life feels like, perhaps in hopes that they would give up this crusade against him.

Garth also suggests that they visit Alaska to fix their bad mojo because they can only function this way for so long. However, we know that this trip won't be just like any other since this is the final season and the prophecy is that they're supposed to kill each other. There's also Chuck probably scheming away somewhere.

The episode ends with a fade to black and Dean yelling "Sonofab****!" Hold on to your seats, it's definitely going to be a bumpy ride from here on out.

'Supernatural' airs every Thursday at 8/7c on The CW.
