'Superman & Lois' spinoff in development by The CW with Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles from 'Supergirl'

The CW introduces 'Superman & Lois' to their Arrowverse shows. The spinoff would imply that Tyler Hoechlin's Superman is safe from the upcoming 'Crisis on Infinite Earths'

The Arrowverse is set to add another show to its roster, as a 'Superman & Lois' TV series has just been confirmed.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the show will have Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprising their roles as Clark Kent and Lois Lane. The show is currently under development at The CW.

'Superman & Lois' will be written by former 'The Flash' showrunner, Todd Helbing, who will also share the role of executive producer with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and DC's Geoff Johns.

The show is described as following the comics' most iconic couple "as they deal with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today's society."

The part about "working parents" is especially notable, as it might just confirm that the show will introduce Jon Kent to the Arrowverse.

Hoechlin's Superman was introduced to The CW in 2016 in season two of 'Supergirl'. His appearances have been scarce, but the show has made plenty of references to his offscreen adventures on Earth-38, including his rivalry with Lex Luthor, and his life in Metropolis.

The 2018 Arrowverse crossover 'Elseworlds' introduced Elizabeth Tulloch's Lois Lane. Both Hoechlin and Tulloch have taken to social media to express their gratitude for the opportunity.

"I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to tell this story, that for now shall remain a secret. But I've been blessed with nothing less than the most wonderful people to do it alongside. I couldn't ask for a better partner than @BitsieTulloch in all of this," said Hoechlin on his Instagram page

"Our incredible showrunner Todd Helbing is writing SUCH a riveting, unique, and poignant story for us. And I couldn’t ask for a better or more fun partner than Tyler," wrote Tulloch

'Superman & Lois' is the second confirmed spinoff for The CW's Arrowverse, the other being an as-yet-unnamed female-focused series starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy.

A third spinoff, though unconfirmed, would star David Harewood's Martian Manhunter.

Superman and Lois Lane are characters created by Jerry Seigel and Joe Shuster in 1938 and are comics' oldest and most iconic romantic pairing.

The characters' relationship was teased for years before finally getting married in 1996, to coincide with the wedding of the same characters in the live-action show 'Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman' starring Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher.

The confirmation of Hoechlin's Superman on the show would imply that at least one Kryptonian is going to make it out of the upcoming 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' alive.

There has been speculation as to whether or not his character would be killed, especially as the death of a Kryptonian character would pay homage to the death of Supergirl in the original 'Crisis on Infinite Earths' by Marv Wolman and George Perez.

There are two other Supermen confirmed for The CW series, however, with Brandon Routh and Tom Welling both reprising their Kryptonian characters — so there is still every chance for the upcoming 'Crisis' to recreate the iconic image of Superman holding a deceased Supergirl in his arms.

Hoechlin's Superman and Tulloch's Lois Lane will make their next appearance on The CW’s crossover event 'Crisis on Infinite Earths', which starts on December 8 on 'Supergirl'.
