'Supergirl' season 5: Will Mehcad Brooks' James Olsen be the next to die since he is set to leave the show?

'Supergirl' will see a major character exit during season 5. Mehcad Brooks, who played James "Jimmy" Olsen since the start of the series will be leaving the CW Superhero drama in the first half of season 5. Olsen was introduced as a Superman connection but plays a pivotal role in Kara Danvers aka Supergirl's (Melissa Benoist) world. From a photographer to Kara's love interest, Brooks has been an integral part of the show.

His character arc too has seen some interesting changes. In addition to being a valuable team member, he also suits up as the Guardian at one point, working as a vigilante to protect the people of National City. The previous season saw Olsen injected with Harun-El or Black Kryptonite, and as a result, he briefly gained super-powers.

While it is still unclear how his exit is planned, it is safe to assume that the character will bow out in the best way possible. "We love Mehcad and we’re sad to see him leave the show as a series regular," showrunners Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller said in an official statement. "He’ll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends." While this leaves room for him to come back at some point, there's also a possibility that as hard as it may seem to imagine, Olsen's character may die.

With the 'Crisis' coming up, we don't know if he may be a casualty of war. Or he may probably be a victim of his lover Lena Luthor's (Katie McGrath) rage after she discovers the truth about Supergirl's secret identity. She was left reeling and feeling betrayed by the people she's closest to. Lena will most obviously lash out and may be one of the baddies in the upcoming installment. Should that be the case, then expect an emotional farewell to the character. Or, it may just be a happy ending, who knows?

His exit though doesn't mean Kara will be handicapped or fall short of support. Last season introduced his sister Kelly, played by Azie Tesfai, who's been promoted to a season regular. It looks as though the Olsen family will remain strongly connected to 'Supergirl.'
