'Suncoast is a must-watch': Hulu's 'perfect' coming-of-age movie leaves viewers 'sobbing'

'Suncoast' conveys a raw perspective on the family split apart by a fatal illness and their struggle to get through it

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hulu's latest movie, 'Suncoast', is the heartwarming journey of a teenage girl, Doris (Nico Parker), who is craving attention from her mother, Kristine (Laura Linney).

Doris' life takes a surprising turn as she befriends the oddball protestor Paul (Woody Harrelson), who acts like her father figure.

The movie, which marks the directorial debut of Laura Chinn, has garnered favorable reviews from both viewers and critics.

Hulu's 'Suncoast' garners massive praise from viewers 

The film, which tackles delicate subjects like loss and grief, is tugging at viewers' heartstrings, with many commenting on how the film's emotional depth left them sobbing.

Commenting with their thoughts on the same, one X user said, "Just watched Suncoast on Hulu and cried for 2 hrs."

Another user mentioned that they were left crying after watching the movie without knowing anything about the plot beforehand. "I put on Suncoast without watching a trailer or reading the description & now i’m sitting here crying at 7am," wrote the social media user.

"#Suncoast was a great film @hulu," another fan simply wrote on X.

In addition, viewers also praised Woody Harrelson's portrayal of Paul. "I broke down so bad watching Suncoast on Hulu. Anything with Woody Harrelson," an X user wrote.

An additional online user commended the film for its nostalgic aspects and wrote, "#Suncoast is perfect amounts millenial nostalgia and millenial trauma."

The film received high praise from online users for its touching plot and deft use of the Terri Schiavo controversy as background material. Will there be a sequel to 'Suncoast'?

There isn't any official word on the movie's sequel. Recently released, the film concluded with Max's (Cree Kawa) death.

Doris and Kristine come to terms with his loss and move on, giving the characters a sense of closure and leaving no room for further expansion of the characters.

However, the possibility of a sequel is not out of the question; it all depends on the filmmaker's decision and the level of acclaim the film will garner.
