LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In Episode 3 of 'Sugar', as certain revelations come to light, fresh enigmas emerge, thus keeping fans hooked on John Sugar's investigation of a complicated high-profile case.

'Sugar' introduces Colin Farrell as John Sugar, an accomplished private detective, and Ruby (played by Kirby Howell-Baptiste) appears to be his close aide and well-wisher.

Their close connection has been warm and nurturing, as reflected by their care for one another, until the recent episode where Ruby's cryptic phone call sets the stage for yet another intriguing mystery.

Throughout the series, Ruby is seen asking Sugar to visit Dr Vickers about his deteriorating health condition. Though the mysterious Dr Vickers (Scott Lawrence) hasn't been introduced in the series yet, the latest episode suggests that he is not just a physician but has a bigger role in the entire plot.

During the party, when Sugar asks Ruby for information on the man who threatened Teresa (Cher Alvarez), she reveals his name to be Byron Stallings (Eric Lange). She adds that she would need a little more time to dig further details about him.

However, in a shocking twist of events, when Sugar leaves, we see Ruby calling Dr Vickers and informing him that Sugar is onto Stallings and it's only a matter of time before he discovers details about him. On the other hand, Dr Vickers asserts that Sugar must be stopped and instructs Ruby that "others" must be informed, especially Miller.

Byron Stallings is introduced as a criminal who threatens Teresa to know the whereabouts of Clifford Carter. In Episode 3, we learn that Stallings used to work for border patrol and was sentenced for manslaughter.

Ruby has all the information on Stallings but withholds it to herself while keeping Sugar in the dark. She even removes Stallings' details from the database, so that Sugar doesn't find out about him.

The nail-biting episode suggests that everyone seems to be working against Sugar, keeping him in the dark, while he single-handedly tries to solve the case.

At this point, the reasons behind Dr Vickers' desire to halt Sugar's investigation and Ruby's insistence on him abandoning the case remain unclear. Additionally, Miller's identity also remains a mystery. Sugar's task would have been considerably simpler if someone had been honest to him.

However, with Melanie Matthews (Amy Ryan), Bernie Siegel (Dennis Boutsikaris), and even Ruby concealing some secrets, Sugar finds himself entangled in a web of mysteries. It may take him a bit longer before he ultimately unravels the truth behind Olivia Siegel's (Sydney Chandler) disappearance.

We may speculate that these enigmas could be linked to Djen, Sugar's supposedly dead sister. Sugar continues to be haunted by her memory, despite her absence from the narrative.

The reason why he took up Olivia's case is because she somehow reminded him of Djen and he wants to save Olivia because he couldn't save Djen, at least as far as we can assume.

Ruby's attempts to stop Sugar might stem from her awareness of this potential connection, as she likely doesn't want Sugar to endure further pain.

'Sugar' is available to stream on Apple TV+.
