'Stranger Things' Season 5: Duffer brothers reveal why show's final outing will be shorter than Season 4
Season 4 of ‘Stranger Things’ was really special and there are a lot of reasons for that. From epic storytelling to compelling performances, the fourth edition of the sci-fi horror series hit all the right notes and pushed the boundaries. It was also the first time when the average duration of all the episodes was more than 75 minutes and although people were really skeptical about the timings, the show justified why it was important to not delete stuff.
Since then, fans have been hoping for a super-sized Season 5 as well because it will be the last time that they will be able to see their favorite characters together on screen. However, it seems the Duffer brothers are not that interested in doing something similar with Season 5. While talking about the show’s fifth and final season, the creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, opened up about how long the upcoming edition might be and if there are going to be more episodes this time around.

In a recent interview with Collider, the Duffer brother noted that the final season won’t be as long as Season 4 and will be sticking to a more traditional episode count.
“We thought Season 4 was going to be eight [episodes], and they were going to be regular length. So if you had interviewed us before four, that's what I would've said. I think we're aiming for eight again. We don't want it to be 13 hours. We're aiming for more like 10 hours or something,” said Matt Duffer.
Meanwhile, Ross noted that Season 4 was bigger because they wanted to set up the Vecna arc for all the main characters. He added, “This season, for instance, it was two hours before our characters even realized the monster was killing people in Hawkins. They know what the threat is now, and so that will help speed it up.”
But fans can take a sigh of relief because the creators have made it clear that Season 5 will be longer than the show’s first edition.
A lot of things have changed now and it makes sense that Season 5 won’t be as long as the latest edition. Season 4 saw the makers jumping from one group to another and they were all in different locations. Now that they have come together it would be much easier to focus on the group as a whole.
Not a lot is known about Season 5 as of now, but we know that Vecna is returning to wreak havoc in Hawkins once again and this time, he is going to hurt the entire town and not just the group he fought in Season 4. It will be interesting to see how Eleven and the entire group fight the monster this time around and how others chip on. Also, fans are curious to know if Max will be able to join her friends in defeating the evil or not. Season 4 has already broken all the viewing records and become the second most-watched show in Netflix history. Recently, the show shattered all the Nielsen streaming records and racked up 7.2 billion minutes of streaming from May 30 to June 5. No other show has ever managed to cross the 6 billion (minutes) mark in a single week.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 is currently streaming on Netflix.
