Netflix recently launched a behind-the-scenes series of what it took to make the costume that made Vecna. Set six months after the Battle of Starcourt in season three, the teenage heroes of Hawkins, once again face off an evil presence from the alternate dimension known as the 'Upside Down'. The plot in season four tells us the history of Vecna and who he is. He is revealed to be Henry Creel, Dr Brenner's [Matthew Modine] first patient named '001' from his experiments on young children. While trying to get Eleven out of the hospital, he takes an Evil form almost killing Eleven leading to a Telekinetic battle between the two where she sends him to the 'Upside Down'.

The creators of the series, Matt and Ross Duffer, wanted to utilize as many practical effects as possible while creating Vecna. This was to simulate the effects that were featured prominently in '80s science-fiction and horror films, as well as to give an imposing presence for the young actors to react to during their scenes. Vecna's costume turned out to be so impressive and surreal that it ended up scaring some of the stars. Millie Bobby Brown during the 'Mind Lair' scenes, got so scared seeing him that the young actor literally burst into tears.

The new video highlights the intricacies of Vecna's suit along with the various techniques, costumes, and special effects that were used to fully develop the monster, created by the Duffer brothers. Emmy Award-winning prosthetics designer, Barrie Gower, detailed the varied steps it took to take the character from the concept stage and build it through various molding procedures to finally fit the costume on Bower while making it appear natural. Vecna, the chief antagonistic force within the series needed to be frightening on multiple levels. Through the excellent design of the creature and Bowers' performance, the telepathic being turned out to be as terrifying as expected.
