'Stranger Things': Eddie's death poses huge problem for one of Season 5's main characters
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Netflix's modern classic 'Stranger Things' is about to bid adieu to the audience in the upcoming fifth season. It is no doubt that the series has made several iconic moments, from Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) flipping a van to recent Max's (Sadie Sink) levitation for 'Running up the hill'. But the main downside of this 'Upside Down' world is the series handling the deaths of the characters.
So far, 'Stranger Things' has seen some of the tragic deaths of the sweet and undeserved minor characters in each season like the infamous Barb (Shannon Purser) in Season 1, Bob (Sean Astin) Season 2, and Dr Alexei (Alec Utgoff) Season 3. These deaths of the short-lived beloved characters sparked a conversation online about how the show creators are introducing a new and sweet character just to kill them off in the later part of the season in a dramatic way. After that, we saw the death of Billy (Dacre Montgomery) in Season 3 and Eddie (Joseph Quinn) in Season 4, However, this time their deaths created an actual impact that blended with the ongoing plot moving forward. Particularly, Eddie's death contributed to a major impact on the season that can not be replaced. However, this poses a major problem for the final season of the series.

Edward Munson's death
Season 4 has seen the introduction of Edward "Eddie" Munson, the Dungeons & Dragons master of 'Hellfire Club' and an outcast with a bad reputation among the town people. Throughout the progression of the season, we were able to witness Eddie's character in detail, with a deep look into his real nature. And his friendship with Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) is one for the books.
This set-up for Eddie's character throughout the season paved for one of the most iconic and significant moments of the season when he is seen sacrificing himself on top of a trailer on the Upside Down. Eddie was attacked by the bats while playing a solo tune on his guitar on top of the trailer in an etched moment. From a being troubled child to saving Hawkins, Eddie's death is the most impactful death so far in the series.
Problems for Season 5
So far, 'Stranger Things' has managed to keep all of the major characters alive. This includes a lot of misleading deaths including the corpse of Will (Noah Schnapp) from Season 1, the brutal attack of Dr Brenner (Matthew Modine) in the same season by Demogorgon and the death of Jim Hopper (David Harbour) at the end of the Season 3 and even Max's death (Sadie Sink) in Season 4. These miraculously lucky main characters have to face the powerful Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) in Season 5 and things are not looking good for the Hawkins group.
In order to win against Vecna, at least one of the beloved main characters would have to die, but in a way that emotionally impacts the story. Currently, the death of Eddie has the upper hand in terms of the emotional impact and this puts Season 5 in a difficult spot. Only an unexpected demise of a main character in the middle of the season would most definitely do the trick of providing the intended impact and would act as a driving source to the remaining group in defeating Vecna and saving Hawkins. Otherwise, the hindmost season will fall short if the major characters are not having a meaningful and huge impact.
The first four seasons of 'Stranger Things' are available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
