After trying to meet fans for years together, it seems like singer IU (Lee Ji-eun) has now canceled the reservation for a venue that she rented with the hope of announcing her 2022 concert. Within only two months, this year has already seen many K-pop comebacks being postponed, many fan meetings canceled as well as multiple concerts being called off all due to the Covid pandemic which has grappled all of K-pop.

Multiple idols tested positive for Covid every single day and now, even before the announcement of her upcoming 2022 concert, IU has called off the reservation of the Jamsil Olympic Stadium as of February 21 where she was hoping to hold a concert for her fans. After a Naver report announced that the upcoming concert from the ‘Nation’s Singer’ IU was canceled, fans see a silver lining as they hope for a concert later this year.

IU cancels her 2022 concert without any formal notice

With no official confirmation to fans, IU had reportedly reserved the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul, South Korea intending to hold her first concert in two years since the start of the Covid pandemic. Now, a source from the ‘Seoul Information Communication Plaza’, an information disclosure system of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, announced that the upcoming reservation for IU’s upcoming concert, which could be called the ‘2022 IU Concert’, has been withdrawn from the Jamsil Olympic Stadium.

The source also revealed that the reason for IU’s withdrawal from the concert stadium reservation is stated to be that the facility of the stadium was not used for unavoidable reasons, such as natural disasters. With this, 2022 becomes the third year of singer IU not being able to hold a concert for her fans. The last time IU met with her fans was in November of 2019 at the ‘2019 IU Tour Concert Love, Poem’.

‘I hope IU is able to hold it’

Fans are now manifesting that the concert is rescheduled as one fan said, “It's so heartbreaking and i regret it so much even more when all this sht pandemic happened– i do really hope i'll get that chance to finally enjoy a concert someday.” One fan said, “I just opened twitter and read the news about the cancellation of jamsil for IU's concert this year? Oh covid you're the real hope-breaker.” Another fan said, “All this time iu’s been secretly preparing a concert at jamsil stadium but due to covid, it got cancelled. cant imagine how heartbreaking this was for her knowing that she wanted this so so much.”

One fan said, “Ignoring ALL tweets about iu and jamsil i dont wanna hurt myself more it makes me so sad it’s been almost two years and iu cant still hold a concert there.” Another fan said, “Iu has been anticipating her concert since 2020. it’s been two years already.” One more fan said, “So an IU concert was booked in Jamsil Stadium this 2022 but the stadium cancelled it (maybe because of Covid & their plan renovations). She really wants to do concert in Jamsil, but Covid ruined it. I hope the situation gets better already.”

Another fan alleged, “K-uaena saying there’s still hope for iu concert, suppose they rented jamsil stadium twice for 1st & 2nd quarter of the year. if the cancellation only applies for first quarter then there’s hope for later on this year if the situation improves.” One fan responded, “Lets hope for the best uaenas.” Another fan said, “Maybe there’s hope.” One fan said, “Second quarter?! I hope she’s able to hold it 😭 she’s been wanting to tour let’s not crush that dream for her.”
