TNT's 'Snowpiercer' has passed the halfway mark on its first season and things are not looking good for Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly). The mysterious head of hospitality has made some questionable decisions to maintain her secrets but her latest choice could plunge the train into the fires of revolution.

In Episode 5 'Justice Never Boarded', the demented murderess LJ Folger (Annalise Basso) was put on trial for her crimes and found guilty, only to walk free after Melanie pulled a desperate gambit and got her sentence commuted. So now not only has she allowed a psychopath who once blinded her own father to walk free, but she's also given Third Class more than enough reason to start a revolution against her and the rich passengers of First Class.

To make matters even more complicated, the last episode ended with Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) being freed from the drawers and smuggled away to Third Class where he's being cared for by his ex-wife Zarah Ferami (Sheila Vand). The synopsis for the upcoming Episode 6 'Trouble Comes Sideways' teases that he's going to start fomenting a rebellion and with all the anger brewing down-train, that's going to be a pretty easy job.

All of this raises the question, is Melanie actually losing control, or is all of this part of her plan? She's clearly aware of the risks of her decisions and yet she keeps going ahead and making them anyway. It's almost as if she wants the revolution to happen.

Maybe this is her way of setting things right on the train. Maybe she's secretly manipulating everyone into doing what she wants. For all we know, she's actually trying to find a way to settle the resource crisis by reducing the population through violence, the same way Mr Wilford (Ed Harris) did in Bong Joon-Ho's acclaimed movie that the series takes inspiration from. In any case, we'll just have to wait and find out.

Here's the synopsis for 'Trouble Comes Sideways': "Hiding out with help from his allies, Layton (Daveed Diggs) lays track for revolution. Meanwhile, an engineering emergency threatens every soul on Snowpiercer, and Melanie (Jennifer Connelly) is the only one who can save them."

'Snowpiercer' airs Sundays at 9 pm ET, exclusively on TNT.
