'Snowfall' Season 5 is all set to premiere this week on FX and the mid-80s-set Los Angeles crime drama has been one of the much-awaited shows of the year. One of the frequently asked questions is the time period the series is set in and in what comes as a piece of good news and something to be thrilled about, we will definitely see a time jump in the upcoming season.

Fans will know that the events of Season 1 were set in 1983 and by the time it was curtains for Season 4, it was a two-year jump. Co-creator of the series Dave Andron in an interview with GoldDerby had said that they were looking to go forward in time. "We’re going to probably, it looks like, jump forward a little bit in time, more than we have maybe in the past to get into the meat of 1986 when the violence was really ramping up, when you really started to feel the full militarization of the LAPD when the War on Drugs was on its way to reaching its apex."

The network also confirmed that the storyline of the fifth season was set in the aftermath of NBA prodigy Len Bias's death. The 22-year-old overdosed on cocaine after being selected by the Boston Celtics in the 1986 NBA Draft. It also revealed that the seasons will shed light on the birth of CRASH (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) per a Cinemabend report.

The official synopsis reads, "It's the summer of 1986 in the fifth season of Snowfall. Franklin Saint (Damson Idris) and his entire family are rich beyond their wildest dreams, on the verge of having everything they've ever wanted…right as the ground begins to fall out from under their feet."

It continued: "The sudden and tragic death of basketball star Len Bias makes the rock cocaine epidemic front-page news, the target of both Democrat and Republican lawmakers. Law enforcement is on a warpath and the militarization of the L.A.P.D. continues as police and politicians decide the only way to deal with this growing scourge is through force — and the creation of the new C.R.A.S.H. (Community Resources Against Street Hoodlums) units. The streets of South Central Los Angeles have never been so dangerous as the Saint family navigates the police, the warring gangs, and the CIA."
