‘Siren’ Season 3 Episode 5: Ryn wants the best of both worlds for her baby but her duty demands a sacrifice
Spoilers for ‘Siren’ Season 3 Episode 5
Newer troubles have dawned on Bristol Cove since the time Tia (Tiffany Lonsdale) started working her plans to diminish mankind once for all. Although humans have emerged more powerful in the fight against the merpeople in the recent past, the antecedents to the history of the war between the creatures in the water and the ones on land have proved that even merpeople could pose a serious threat to humans should they stand against them.
The latest episode of ‘Siren’ Season 3 sees an addition to Ryn Fisher's (Eline Powell), tribe as Meredith births the former’s baby. Having gotten so close to humans, Ryn chooses to raise her baby to belong both on land and in water.
‘Mommy and Me’ mostly follows Ryn as she navigates motherhood while trying to ensure her child who she chooses to call ‘Baby’ adapts itself to land and water to ultimately survive.
Ryn’s insistence on her child being able to fight for itself is indicative of trouble that’s ensued within the deep waters. However, when her humanly mother instincts kick in, she seems more inclined towards turning her baby a human than a mermaid as she chooses to withdraw from her duties towards her community by protesting the idea of giving her baby away to be raised by mermen.
Meanwhile, Tia is growing stronger by the day and it’s only a matter of time before she learns about Ryn’s baby. She’s has already warned Ryn against the risk she is taking by choosing humans over her own safety and now, as Hope’s mother, she has more than one issue on her plate to deal with.
But, Ben Pawnoll’s (Alex Roe) experimentation on his own body by injecting aquatic step cells have instilled superhuman abilities in him, which he might use to protect Ryn’s baby and fight Tia. Also, if the experiment turns out to be successful, he can use it to build an army of his own if Bristol Cove witnesses a war.
Besides, Ben’s father is keeping a close watch on his son’s whereabouts and following his encounter with the scary aquatic creatures and the damage they have caused his ancestors, he also seems determined to put an end to the menace caused by the new mermaid Tia or the entire species perhaps.
The story arcs surrounding Ryn’s baby and Ben’s secret experiment which was already intriguing hints at getting better in the upcoming episodes as it teases numerous possibilities that can occur between the different species of Bristol Cove.
