Sex Education’ has been one of the finest shows to hit Netflix in recent years. Its engaging storylines and amazingly written characters are some of the reasons why the show has garnered so much popularity. The streaming platform recently announced that Season 4 of the acclaimed series will start filming later this month, but it seems like one of the key characters on the show is sadly not returning for the upcoming edition.

Patricia Allison, who portrays the character of Ola in the series, has confirmed that her character won’t be returning for Season 4 and revealed that she took the decision to exit the series. If you have been a fan of ‘Sex Education’, then you’ll realize how much of an integral part Ola has been over the years. The character was introduced in Season 1 of the Netflix comedy-drama and was more of a supporting character. However, she soon became a fan favorite and became a huge part of the show.

While appearing on a radio show, Allison revealed that she loved being on the show, but the time has come to move on and focus on other things. The actress also revealed that the character will always be close to her heart. “I absolutely have loved being on ‘Sex Education’ so much, and playing Ola, but unfortunately, I won’t be joining the team for season four,” Allison told Capital Xtra.

Speaking further about her decision, the actress noted that she has received other opportunities and is really excited to devote her time to those. She added, “I love the show. I have to, you guess, I have to say goodbye at some time. But other things are coming! Other things are coming, and that’s really exciting.”

Fans of ‘Sex Education’ had mixed reactions to the news. Some were devastated Ola won’t reappear, but others felt that her character’s development was the worst.

One of the fans wrote, “That’s actually really sad.” Another social media user wrote, “That sucks. Ola definitely wasn’t my favorite character but she has her place in the story being told. Hopefully, she can come back for S5.” Another user noted, “noooooo whaaatttt.”

However, there were many who believed that her character was not interesting at all. One user wrote, “Her character isn't interesting.” Another fan said, “That's fine. Felt like her arc was being stretched out too long.” Another social media user wrote, “Didn’t like her development in last season at all. Thank God she’s gone tbh.”

“Tbh her character was never the greatest and was probably the worst written character on the show, but I had no problem with the actress and thought she did a great job. Especially in the season just past,” another wrote.

In Season 2, we saw Ola getting together with Lily, shortly after she broke up with Otis after having a vivid dream about Lily. Ola realized that if she doesn't pursue things, she might regret it. Lily and Ola kiss each other and start a new relationship. However, Season 3 failed to address the newly-constructed relationship between them, and to be honest, new characters had better storylines than them.

Maybe that’s the reason why Patricia said no to Season 4. It’ll be interesting to see how makers address the absence of Ola from the show.

Season 4 will start filming later this month and as of now, no official release date has been announced.
