The series of year-end song festivals have started with KBS’ Gayo Daechukje taking the lead with its release on December 17. Every year the three major TV networks of and SBS’ Gayo Daejeon follow it closely. Every year the three major networks from South Korea namely KBS, MBC, and SBS host year-end song festivals where a number of music acts perform their recent hits from the last year and entertain fans one last time before moving onto the new year. After KBS’ song festival, fans will look forward to SBS’ Gayo Daejeon which will feature a number of fourth gen K-pop acts that have taken over the world.

This year, SBS’ year-end song festival, titled, ‘2021 SBS Gayo Daejeon: Welcome’ announced that their theme for the year is ‘WELCOME’ as the show will feature a special stage with the message of returning to the “contact” era where musicians and fans meet again after being jarringly separated due to the pandemic. The year-end song festival will have a live audience but the show hosts, SBS will follow stricter performance regulations than previous years to avoid the spread of Covid-19. After KBS, MBC and SBS announce their hosts for year-end song festivals



 

Airdate and time

SBS Gayo Daejeon 2021 will air on December 25 at 6 pm KST (4 am ET). The show will be held at Namdong Gymnasium in Incheon, South Korea.

Tickets

This year unlike the last, SBS Gayo Daejeon will have a live audience. The audience tickets can be purchased from the SBS App. The sale of tickets starts from Thursday, December 16, 10 am KST (8 pm ET) to Sunday, December 19, 11.59 pm KST (9.59 am ET).

Where to watch

The SBS Song Festival 2021 titled, ‘2021 SBS Gayo Daejeon: Welcome’ will be telecast on the SBS channel for South Korean residents. For international fans, the song festival will also be live-streamed on SBS KPOP’s YouTube channel.



 

Hosts

The hosts for the ‘2021 SBS Gayo Daejeon: Welcome’ were announced on December 1, days ahead of the live broadcast of the show. The hosts for the SBS song festival this year will be SHINee’s Key who has established himself as a solo icon over the last year. He will be accompanied by Yuna from the fourth-gen K-pop group ITZY now that the group has celebrated the success of their first studio album ‘Crazy in Love’ and its lead single ‘Loco’. The two will also be joined with Boom (Lee Minho), a South Korean rapper, singer, actor, radio host, and television presenter who is currently seen on a host of Korean variety shows.

Covid-19 Protocols at SBS Gayo Daejeon

This year, SBS will have their Gayo Daejeon with a live audience for the first time in two years. The hosts of the festival, SBS have announced a list of guidelines that all audience members and staff will follow for the safety of all attendees. SBS announced that the cast and staff who enter the site would have to conduct a Covid-19 self-diagnosis test from a kit given to them every day, from the days of setup up to the final day of the show. Audience members and visitors must present a certificate of completion of vaccination or a PCR-negative certificate from a test done in the last 48 hours to enter the venue. In order to ensure a healthy and safe performance for both artists and spectators, SBS has prohibited audience members from standing up mid-performance, viewing other than designated seats, moving seats during performances, and cheering for shouts, etc.
