'Save Lizzie McGuire Reboot': Petition gets nearly 5K signatures as ColourPop Disney collection sparks backlash
The American comedy 'Lizzie McGuire' created by Terri Minsky first premiered on the Disney Channel back in January 2001. Starring Hilary Duff as the titular character the show became a huge hit with the teenagers at the time. To date, the kids-turned-adults reminisce about the time when the show used to air hailing Duff's character - especially the little animated version of her - as one of the best on TV. The series was also nominated for two Emmy nominations in 2003 and 2004 for Most Outstanding Children's Program. Even the pilot of the series was nominated at the Writers Guild of America Awards for Best Children's Script in 2002.
So it would make sense that people would want a reboot right? The reboot was in the works but the channel canceled it back in 2020 which saw a backlash from fans. It was originally planned for an August 2019 release, but questions started to arise about how the adult version of the character could be portrayed. Terri Minsky, the show's creator left speaking of disagreements in "creative direction". Even Duff expressed her concerns saying that the "adult themes" were not "family friendly" for the channel's audiences. Either way though, fans want the reboot. Read on to find out how ColourPop Cosmetics' 'The Disney Lizzie McGuire Collection' launch sparked a petition to bring back the reboot.

'Save the Lizzie McGuire Reboot!'
Part of the petition on change.org reads, "The fans that watched the original show grew up. So it's only logical that the reboot should be aimed towards adults. It was written for us, millennials. Younger kids don't have a connection with Lizzie like we do. We need her guidance again, more than ever!" It adds, "We hope Disney will reconsider their decision. Maybe they could move the reboot to Hulu or Disney+ Star. These streaming services belong to Disney and are more adult-oriented. Please Disney, don't give up on this show. Save the Lizzie McGuire reboot!" The petition has garnered 4,564 signatures out of the required 5,000 when this article was previously updated.
Twitter surged with tweets asking fans to sign the petition as people couldn't help but hope that the reboot revival would have been better than a makeup collection. One user wrote, "Disney let colourpop do a Lizzie mcguire collection but couldnt even give the cast the grownup reboot they wanted to make." Another added, "you know what would make this lizzie mcguire + colourpop collab even better? if we were getting a reboot...#justiceforlizzie."

"so disney could profit off a new lizzie makeup collection but couldn’t give us (or hilary) the reboot we deserved?," said one fan. One user compromised on the launch writing, "ColourPop making a Lizzie McGuire collection almost fixes the heartbreak I had when the reboot was cancelled." Of course there were Spongebob inspire memes as well - "ColourPop releasing a Lizzie McGuire inspired makeup line after @disneyplus canceled the reboot:," wrote another user.

We don't know if Disney might change their minds, but the 'Lizzie McGuire' fandom has made it clear that a reboot is the only thing they want.
