'Run': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about HBO's romantic-comedy thriller

When 'Fleabag' got over, we were left aching for more. HBO is bringing the team behind 'Fleabag' back to the screen with a  new half-hour comedy titled 'Run'.

Starring  Domhnall Gleeson, Merritt Wever, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Rich Sommer, Tamara Podemski and Archie Panjabi, the thriller / romantic-comedy looks like an exciting offering from Waller-Bridge. 

The story revolves around two ex-lovers who activate a long-planned escape to disappear together. Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming show:

Release date

'Run' is set to premiere on HBO on April 12, 2020, at 10.30 pm. 

Plot

According to the official synopsis. "The half-hour comedy series 'RUN' follows a woman whose humdrum life is thrown upside down when she receives a text from her college sweetheart inviting her to drop everything and meet him in New York to fulfill the pact they made 17 years previously."

"On a regular Tuesday morning, Ruby Richardson (Merritt Wever) is shaken out of her humdrum suburban life when she receives an urgent text that prompts her to fly to New York and board a cross-country train, where she reunites with college ex Billy Johnson (Domhnall Gleeson). As their adventure begins, Ruby and Billy fight the tension that still exists between them while attempting to root out each other's secrets."

As Ruby Richardson, Merritt Wever plays the role of a woman looking to reinvent herself. The Emmy-winning actress is known for her role in 'Nurse Jackie', for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and 'Unbelievable'. 

Domhnall Gleeson as Billy Johnson

As Billy Johnson, Gleeson stars as a successful life guru. The actor is known for playing Bill Weasley in the Harry Potter series alongside his father Brendan Gleeson, who played the role of Alastor Moody. The actor won three IFTA Awards for his performance in 'When Harvey Met Bob', 'Anna Karenina', and 'Frank'.

Waller-Bridge guest stars as Laurel, a woman who Ruby and Billy meet on their journey. The English actress, writer, and producer is best known for 'Crashing', 'Fleabag' and 'Killing Eve'.

For 'Fleabag', Waller-Bridge received several accolades including the British Academy Television Award for Best Female Comedy Performance, three Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series among others. Her latest contribution was to the screenplay of the 25th James Bond film, titled 'No Time to Die'. 

Creators

The series 'Run' is written and produced by Vicky Jones, who is a long-time collaborator with Waller-Bridge, and directed the original stage production of 'Fleabag'. Emily Leo and Kate Dennis are also executive-producing, with Dennis slated to direct the pilot.

Once upon a time, Ruby and Billy made a pact with each other — that they would run when either of them texted the word "RUN". And so they do, 17 years later. HBO's 'Run' follows the two on their escape.
