'Run' Trailer: 2 former lovers leave everything and run away after one text in 17 years on this new HBO comedy

Seventeen years ago, Ruby and Billy made a weird pact that if they ever texted 'RUN' to each other, they would drop everything, meet at Grand Central Terminal and travel across America together. But is that it? Are they reigniting old flames?

An HBO show featuring Domhnall Gleeson, Merritt Wever, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Rich Sommer, Tamara Podemski and Archie Panjabi is worthy of our attention and the trailer for ‘Run’ promises much more than a robust star cast.

Gleeson and Wever star as old college sweethearts on this comedy, written and produced by Vicky Jones and executive produced by Jones, Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins, Kate Dennis, Emily Leo and Oliver Roskill of Wigwam Films.

Ruby Richardson (Wever), who looks tired and bored of her suburban existence, one day gets a text from her old college boyfriend, Billy Johnson (Gleeson). It’s just one word: “RUN.” She texts him the same thing back and boards a train. And Billy is on that train as well.

Seventeen years ago, Ruby and Billy made a weird pact that if they ever texted “RUN” to each other, they would drop everything, meet at Grand Central Terminal and travel across America together. But is that it? Are they reigniting old flames?

The official synopsis for ‘Run’ reads: “‘Run’ follows a woman whose humdrum life is thrown upside down when she receives a text from her college sweetheart inviting her to drop everything and meet him in New York to fulfill the pact they made 17 years earlier. On a regular Tuesday morning, Ruby Richardson (Merritt Wever) is shaken out of her humdrum suburban life when she receives an urgent text that prompts her to fly to New York and board a cross-country train, where she reunites with college ex Billy Johnson (Domhnall Gleeson). As their adventure begins, Ruby and Billy fight the tension that still exists between them while attempting to root out each other’s secrets.”

Both Gleeson and Wever are skillful actors and seem to share a chemistry on the trailer that suggests a lot more than unrequited love. It is also one of mutual mistrust even though the duo jumped into life from where there may be no turning back.

The trailer is only made better because while all this is happening, 'Run The Jewels’ ‘Nobody Speak’ is playing in the background, adding more meaning to both the show’s name and theme.
