Who is Riolana Doyle? Michigan teen on 'The Voice' impresses John Legend with Adele's 'When We Were Young'

Riolana's unique voice was appreciated by Kelly Clarkson and Nick Jonas but here's why she ultimately never got a chair turn from them

'The Voice' had yet another talented teenager take to the stage. This time it was 16-year-old Riolana, who is called Rio by her friends and family. Riolana, who is from Adrian, Michigan, sang Adele's 'When We Were Young'. 

Riolana certainly loves to do things king size or should that be queen size. She turned 16 during the quarantine last year but she still celebrated whole heartedly and even wore a grand tiara. She will turn 17 on March 25.

Besides being a singer, Riolana is also a talented pianist. Rio seemed extremely comfortable and confident on stage and that is probably because she has been part of several theatrical productions including 'Frozen' and 'Aladin'. 

Fans were extremely impressed with the 16-year-old's talent beyond her years. One fan tweeted, "Rio Doyle is SO GOOD. And only 16. Holy cow. #TheVoice." Another echoed the sentiment, and was clearly feeling sentimental, "@johnlegend @NBCTheVoicerio Doyle brought out tears. What a choice for a 16 year old!"

One fan tweeted appreciation at how the Adele song was handled, "Good job by Rio Doyle with the Adele song. She didn't over-sing. She didn't scream. #thevoice" Another fan who clearly already follows Rio posted on Instagram, "Her tone is DOPE! Everyone check out and like her cover of 'Trainwreck'! @riolana.doyle."

Not surprisingly fans couldn't believe that Rio Doyle only got one chair turn from John Legend. One fan clearly shocked said, "I’m with @johnlegend. Can’t believe he was the only one who turned for Rio Doyle... she is a contender! #TheVoice." Another fan on Instagram posted, "This should be a 4chair turn her voice is incredible."

Nick Jonas explained that the reason he didn't turn for Rio was because he had some issues with her pitch while Kelly Clarkson said at times she couldn't understand the words of the song. However, overall the judges were very encouraging of Rio's talent and her unqiue style of singing.
