While Percy Jackson was a childhood favorite it was bittersweet for many as its live adaptations had a bad plot with an amazing cast. But the series is redeeming itself as writer Rick Riordan is more than making up for his shortcomings with a diverse cast and book-accurate plot. And while fans are all for the redemption arc of Percy Jackson, we just got another reason to love its creators as Riordan gave us the best crossover into K-pop with Namjoon the dragon.

Rick Riordan might be busy personally helming the Percy Jackson show but that hasn’t stopped him from doing what he does best which is creating fantasy books of epic scales. Following the success of his books that dabble in different cultures from Greek and Norse mythology to Egyptian fantasy, he launched Rick Riordan Presents to publish books of similar genres by other writers. We have gotten some exciting series with myths of India, Aztec, Africa, and even Korea. Well, for Graci Kim’s ‘The Gifted Clans’ which weaves a fantasy tale with Korean mythology, we have a loveable dragon inspired by BTS’ leader RM whose real name is Kim Namjoon.

Namjoon becomes a dragon in the world of Percy Jackson

First released in 2021, ‘The Last Fallen Star’ which is the first book of the series, follows the tale of Riley Oh who has to travel to the Godrealm’s last fallen star to acquire magic and save her sister. For its sequel, ‘The Last Fallen Moon’, ARMY were in for a surprise when Rick Riordan introduced a new character on June 23. Taking to Twitter, the writer revealed Namjoon the dragon, “Move over, Mong! Another adorable pup, straight from the Spiritrealm, is here to melt our hearts. Meet Namjoon, from #TheLastFallenMoon.” Writer Graci Kim also affirmed fans’ suspicions that she just might be an ARMY.

Kim also tweeted, “Hey army! Namjoon has dragon eyes… I heart him so much he made his way into my books. I hope you like them too! Start with book 1 though: #TheLastFallenStar ⭐️ In this Korean witch world, singing BTS songs open secret portals. You’re welcome.” With the soft yet fierce dragon sharing similarities and the same name as BTS’ leader, ARMY are having the time of their life. Fans who lost touch with the Percy Jackson universe and Rick Riordan’s latest projects are also going through a nostalgic trip with Namjoon the dragon now giving them more of a reason to get back to some fantasy reading.

‘Meet who now’

ARMY hilariously trended ‘Meet who’ as Riordan’s tweet felt like a fever dream. One fan tweeted, “Rick riordan tweeting anything remotely related to bts is not something i ever expected to happen but here we are MEET WHO NOW???”  Fans also made posts like, “MEET WHO?” Another found the whole interaction hilarious, “Lmao not "meet who" trending in the RM topic.” One fan wondered, “Do u think namjoon has read percy jackson?” Another was hyped, “NAMJOON CANON PERCY JACKSON CHARACTER AHAHAKSBDSKSBS.” One added, “Pup namjoon’ ‘cuteness is in the eye of the beholder’ and he’s vegetarian too which reminds me of joon’s ‘no veggies?!’ THIS IS MAKING ME SO HAPPY LIKE SOMEONE IS IN LOVE WITH BABY JOON WITH HIS COOL DRAGON EYESHDJDJDJD.”
