'Ratched': Meet Sarah Paulson, Sharon Stone, Cynthia Nixon and rest of the cast of Netflix's thriller series
'Ratched' is an upcoming psychological thriller series on Netflix inspired by the character Nure Mildren Ratched from the classic film adaption of the novel, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'. Here is the cast that is bringing the series adaption to life:
Sarah Paulson as Nurse Mildred Ratched
Paulson is an acclaimed and award-winning actress who pretty much leads the 'American Horror Story' franchise with her numerous and impeccably daunting roles. Besides that, she is known for her roles as Mistress Epps from '12 Years a Slave' (2013), Abby Gerhard from 'Carol' (2015) and Dr Ellie Staple from 'Glass' (2019). Most recently she's been seen in 'Mrs America' (2020), 'The Goldfinch' (2019), 'Abominable' (2019) and 'Bird Box' (2018).
Paulson has won numerous awards of course — the most recent ones include a Queerty for 'Love is Great' which she shared with Holland Taylor, a Golden Globe in 2017 for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for 'American Crime Story' (2016) and a Primetime Emmy in 2016 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie for the same production for playing 'Marcia Clark'.
Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood
Stone is known for her roles as Catherine Tramell from 'Basic Instinct' (1992), Ginger McKenna from 'Casino' (1995), Ellen from 'The Quick and the Dead' (1995) and Carly Norris from 'Silver' (1993). Her most recent works include 'The Cold Open' (2019), 'Better Things' (2019), 'The Laundromat' (2019) and the hit series 'New Pope' (2020) starring Jude Law.
Stone had been nominated for an Oscar in 1996 for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 'Casino' and also won a Primetime Emmy in 2004 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for 'The Practice' where she played the role of Sheila Carlisle.
Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs
Nixon is known for her most famous role as Miranda Hobbes from the 'Sex and the City 2' franchise but the actress has many other recognizable roles under her belt. Her film debut was 'Little Darlings' (1980) where she played the role of Sunshine, and her other roles included 'Alice' from 1982, 'Rascals and Robbers: The Secret Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn' (1982), Lori from 'Amadeus' (1984), Gail White from 'James White' (2015) and Emily Dickinson from 'A Quiet Passion' (2016).
Her most recent works include 'That's Harassment' (2018), 'Maybe a Love Story' (2018), 'The Parting Glass' (2018), 'Guilt Not Guilty' (2018) and 'Stray Dolls' (2018). She has one release titled 'The Gilded Age' in post-production where she will be playing the role of Ada Brook. Nixon has many awars under her belt such as the Faith Hubley Memorial Award at the 2016 Provincetown International Film Festival, the Muse Award at the 1008 New York Women in Film & Television, the Vito Russo Award at the 2010 GLAAD Media Awards.
Of course, she has won awards for her delivery of one of the most invested in characters on TV, Miranda from 'Sexy and The City' but many forget that she also has won for her other roles such as a Primetime Emmy in 2004 for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for playing Janis Donovan, a Chlotrudis Award in 2016 for Best Supporting Actress for 'James White' and a FilmOut Festival Award for Best Supporting Actress for 'An Englishman in New York' (2009).
Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson
Wittrock is known for his role as Dandy Mott / Tristan Duffy / Rudolph Valentino and others from 'American Horror Story' (2014-2021), Mac from 'Unbroken' (2014), Jaime Shipley from 'The Big Short' (2015), and Freddie Steinmark from 'My All-American' (2015). His most recent works include 'The Last Black Man in San Francisco' (2019), 'Plus one' (2019), 'Big Boy Pants' (2019), 'Alternatino with Arturo Castro' (2019), 'Judy' (2019) and 'Brothers in Arms' (2019).
He currently has three releases in post-production titled 'Deep Water' (2020), 'Long Weekend' (2021), and 'A Mouthful of Air' (2021). Besides 'Ratched' the actor has another completed release titled 'Louie' where he plays the role of Young Roscoe. Wittrock had been nominated for two Primetime Emmy's - one in 2015 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a Movie for 'American Horror Story' for the role of Dandy Mott and one in 2018 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for the same product for 'The Assassination of Gianni Versace'.
He has also won the Clarence Derwent Award in 2012 for Best Supporting Male (USA), a Gold Derby TV Award in 2016 for TV Movie/Mini Supporting Actor for 'American Horror Story Freak Show' and the Ensemble Cast Award at the 2016 Palm Springs International Film Festival for 'The Big Short'.
Jon Jon Briones as Dr Richard Hanover
Briones is known for his roles as Asian Elvis from the hit series 'Sons of Anarchy' (2008), Modesto Cunanan from 'American Horror Story' (2018), and Cosme from 'Las Vegas' (2003-2004). His most recent roles include 'Anyone Home?' (2018), 'Better Things' (2019), 'All Rise' (2019) and 'The Patients' (2019).
Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket
Davis is known for her roles as Sally from 'Husbands and Wives' (1992), Molly Dunnage from 'The Dressmaker' (2015), Audrey Taylor from 'Barton Fink' and Joan Frost/Joan Lee from 'Naked Lunch' (1991). Her most recent works include 'The Dressmaker' (2015), 'Feud: Bette and Joan' (2017) and 'Mystery Road' (2018). Davis had been nominated for two Oscars — one in 1985 for Best Actress in a Leading Role for 'A Passage to India' (1984) where she played the role of Adela and in 1993 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 'Husbands and Wives'.
The actress has won numerous awards, most recently The Equity Award in 2019 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Series in a Drama Series for 'Mystery Road' which she shared with her cast members, the FCCA Award in 2016 for Best Actress - Supporting Role for 'The Dressmaker' (2015) where she played the role of and the AACTA Award in 2015 for Best Supporting Actress for the same production.
The rest of the cast includes Charlie Carver as Huck Finnigan, Harriet Harris, Hunter Parrish, Amanda Plummer as Louise, Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright, Sophie Okonedo as Charlotte Wells, Vincent D’Onofrio as Governor George Wilburn and many more.
The official synopsis reads, "In 1947, Mildred arrives in Northern California to seek employment at a leading psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. On a clandestine mission, Mildred presents herself as the perfect image of what a dedicated nurse should be. But the wheels are always turning and as she begins to infiltrate the mental health care system and those within it. Mildred’s stylish exterior belies growing darkness that has long been smoldering within, revealing that true monsters are made, not born."
