'Radioactive': Meet Rosamund Pike, Sam Riley and rest of the cast of Amazon Prime's Marie Curie biopic
Marie Curie is considered one of the most accomplished and gifted scientists in history. Along with her husband, Curie isolated radium in 1902, and the duo synthesized this single gram of radium which became instrumental in their work on radioactivity in the following years. The discovery culminated in Curie earning the second Nobel Prize in chemistry, in 1911. During her 1921 tour of the States, she obtained another gram of radium along with the recognition of her service to science by the women of America. In a cruel twist of fate, radium was the cause of Marie Curie's death in 1934. She died due to pernicious anemia caused by chronic radiation poisoning.
So it goes without saying that Curie deserves to have her story told. 'Radioactive', starring Rosamund Pike, will release on Amazon Prime on July 24.
The official synopsis of the film reads: “In the male-dominated society of late 19th century Paris, Marie is a fiercely passionate scientist, who struggles to progress her ground-breaking research, despite her obvious brilliance. After joining forces with fellow scientist and future husband, Pierre Curie, they take her exploration of radioactivity forward, discovering not one, but two new elements: radium and polonium. The genius of the Curies’ discoveries and the ensuing Nobel prize propels the devoted couple into the international limelight. But after a tragic accident, Marie must continue to advance her work alone resulting in revolutionary discoveries that have dramatic consequences for the modern world."

Rosamund Pike
While Pike has been part of several prominent productions, her most well-known work is 'Gone Girl' (2014), where she played the role of Amy Dunn. The other roles that she is recognized for include Miranda Frost from 'Die Another Day' (2002), Jane Bennet in 'Pride and Prejudice' (2005), Helen from 'Jack Reacher' (2012) and Louise in 'State of the Union' (2019).
Sam Riley
Riley is known for his roles as Ian Curtis in 'Control' (2007), Diaval in 'Maleficent' (2014) alongside Angelina Jolie, Mr Darcy in 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies' (2016) and as Sal Paradise / Jack Kerouac in 'On the Road' (2012).
