'Race': TVXQ's Yunho returns with K-film, fans don't hold back 'who is going to act'

'Race' is Yunho's first acting project since 2017 K-drama 'Meloholic'

TVXQ’s Yunho aka U-Know is having a great year right from joining SMTOWN for their Winter ensemble concert to being roped in for the Tokyo Dome concert and dropping his second Japanese mini-album ‘You Go Ahead’. He also reunited with BoA for her 20th anniversary special as they performed ‘Only One’ in May. And now it has been reported that Yunho is returning to acting as he has been cast in the Korean film ‘Race’.

Yunho had debuted with the self-promotional mini-series ‘Vacation’ which also included the rest of TVXQ. He landed his first major K-drama with ‘Heading to the Ground' in 2009 as he played the main lead along with actress Go Ara of ‘Hwarang’ fame. Yunho’s last acting project was ‘Meloholic’ in 2017 after he completed his mandatory military service. And while he has had cameos in K-films like ‘Ode To My Father’, ‘Race’ is his first major movie project.

TVXQ’s Yunho cast in film ‘Race’

On June 2, it was announced that Yunho will be starring as Seo Dong-hoon, an American-Korean who is a design major and is now the CEO of the company where he started out as a publicist. ‘Race’ follows the lives of the main characters who live in a rat race in a constantly evolving digital age. The female lead is Lee Yeon-hee who plays Park Yoon-jo and rose to the top without any family connections or academic credentials. We then have Ryu Jae-min played by actor Hong Jong-hyun who wants to make the world a better place. An office romance forms between the three of them leading to a complicated love triangle.

And while some TVXQ fans are excited about Yunho’s first major film and sent supportive messages, many fans are not holding back as they bashed the cast’s acting skills. Knetz made posts like, “That lead line up... Who is going to act?” Another commented, “The actors... What kind of standard did they have with that lineupㅋㅋ.” One Knetz wrote, “If the male lead is U-Know Yunho and the female lead is Lee Yeon Hee, who will act?” Another said, “Hong Jong Hyun can’t act either.. The lineup is crazy, I don’t want to see U-Know Yunho on TV.”

One joked, “The crew doesn’t care about acting?” Fans ended up adding gifs of Yunho’s acting. Another tweeted, “Not Yunho's mid acting having a comeback before TVXQ!” One said, “I thought Yunho sucked at acting, but good for him for getting a job.” Another wondered, “Its so sad how upon seeing the yunho actor news my first thought was ‘omg yunhos acting again’ quickly followed by ‘is it april 1st’.”
