It has been years since we last saw the legendary K-pop idols Jaejoong and Junsu together. They had been in one of the most popular boy groups ever, TVXQ which was managed by SM Entertainment. Unfortunately, fans were shocked when they were blacklisted for trying to break their contract with SM. As one of the Big 3 K-pop labels, SM’s influence was enough for broadcasting stations to boycott the two idols. The situation escalated to the point that a law had to be passed.

After leaving TVXQ and SM, Jaejoong and Junsu formed JYJ with another former member, Yuchun who left JYJ in 2019. While their music did well on Japanese and Korean charts, they were not allowed to promote or distribute their albums in South Korea due to SM’s influence. Finally, in 2015, the Ministry of Science and Technology proposed a bill that would not allow producers to pick and choose the celebrities they want on their programs without a justifiable reason. It was passed to give back the rights of JYJ and their fans. Now popularly known as the JYJ law, it will finally benefit the duo who are coming back after seven years.

JYJ reunite for Japanese OST

JYJ continued to promote overseas as they were selected as honorary ambassadors of the 2014 Asian Games. Their last album together was in 2014 and their last farewell single was the Japanese track ‘Wake Me Tonight’ in January 2015. Since their mandatory military service era began in 2015 they could not reap the benefits of the law that was passed for them. While the last member was discharged from the military in 2018, it has been a while since we saw Jaejoong and Junsu together as they have been focusing on their solo careers. But that changed on March 30 as we got new content with more to come.

We got the first official photo of the duo together after years as Junsu and Jaejoong are to sing a Japanese OST (original soundtrack). They will be singing the OST ‘Sixth Star’ for the J-drama ‘Bad Woman’. While the drama will be premiering on April 13, we will get the track in advance. Junsu and Jaejoong are also going to be regaling us with a live performance as they sing the ballad OST on ‘Premium Music 2022’ on March 30 at 7 pm KST (5 am ET). Their last music show stage was 11 years ago on KBS before stations blacklisted them for leaving SM.

'It's really happening'

Fans couldn’t contain their excitement as they made tweets like, “Remember when we were going crazy because jaejoong was talking about how junsu was gonna buy him lunch or dinner or whatever like the joy we felt over just THAT and now they’re singing together again like. this is reality.” Another asked, “How long has it been since we’ve seen an official pic of them together?” One fan posted, “Jaejoong and Junsu will sing an OST song for a Japanese drama together!!!!! 🎉 It's really happening...
