In 2000, Showtime stunned American viewers by releasing one of the boldest and most extraordinary shows of this generation. Titled ‘Queer as Folk’, the show was initially targeted at gay men and women. However, when the show was released, it turned out to be a massive hit among heterosexual women as well.

The series ran for five seasons and was nominated for several awards as well. The show was groundbreaking for many reasons and it seems Peacock is trying to give a perfect gift to the LGBTQIA+ community this Pride Month by bringing back the classic show with a new twist. The streaming service is set to take viewers on an emotional journey with the reboot of ‘Queer as Folk’ premiering in June 2022. If you are a fan of stories related to the LGBTQIA+ community, then you should definitely watch ‘The L Word’, and ‘Schitt’s Creek’.

What is ‘Queer as Folk’ all about?

The official synopsis reads, “The show is a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T Davies, exploring a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.”

For creator Stephen Dunn, ‘Queer as Folk’ is much more than just a TV series. While speaking about the show, Dunn revealed how the original series played an important role in making him confident about his sexuality. He also said that ‘Queer as Folk’ was the first time when he really “felt seen”.

Dunn said, “The show offered a new paradigm - one where we could accept and celebrate queer love, families, and communities on a global stage. It was truly iconic. I am honored that Russell T Davies, the creator of the original series, entrusted me to continue this legacy.”

It will be interesting to see what unique things will be featured this time around as the original 2000 series was the first show to feature a sex scene between two men.
