Coral Castillo surprised everybody when she managed to secure a place in the final four despite never winning a challenge on 'Project Runway' Season 19. Like a dark horse, Coral managed to lay low throughout the season quietly impressing the judges with her playful macrame designs and handcrafting techniques. Needless to say fans were very curious to see what this soft-spoken designer was going to bring to the finale.

Coral wisely used her $10,000 budget and six-month time to craft an impressive collection inspired by her Mexican heritage. She wanted to showcase the warrior spirit of the indigenous people through her collection. Her play on contemporary designs using zippers and incorporating her signature macrame work in her collection left not only the judges- Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and guest judge Tommy Hilfiger impressed but also the audience. Sadly, even though the judges loved Coral's collection, they felt that her fellow designer Shantall Lacayo's collection was more 'marketable' and had a commercial appeal to it, so they chose her as the winner of the season and the recipient of the coveted $250,000 grand prize.

After watching the judges announce Shantall as the winner, despite Coral being the only designer to receive a standing ovation from all the designers, it would be a gross understatement to say that the fans were upset. Several fans took to Twitter to express their displeasure with the judges crowning Shantall as the winner even though Coral's designs stood out and had a meaningful story attached to them. A fan tweeted, "The fact that fashion challenged Gina from #RHOC loved Shantall designs should have been a red flag lol I've liked her all season, but felt the final collection was meh compared to Coral's intricate designs #ProjectRunway." Another fan wrote, "Coral was definitely robbed. And it just proves how this lesser #ProjectRunway is a joke. Shantall's was probably the fugliest winning collection in the entire franchise." "Coral should have won that…Chasity a close second #ProjectRunway," added a fan.

Another fan shared, "Coral got a standing ovation on her final collection and didn’t win … whew chile #ProjectRunway." "Coral should’ve won hands down! #ProjectRunway," declared a fan. "Ugh. Coral should’ve won. Her collection showed versatility and real creativity. Shantall’s collection used that same chain pattern over and over, something the judges usually criticize. I understand the judges’ decisions less and less as seasons go on. #ProjectRunway," expressed a fan.
