The Act, a Hulu show starring Patricia Arquette and Joey King is based on the real-life story of DeeDee Blanchard and her daughter Gypsy Blanchard. DeeDee, Gypsy's mother suffered from Munchausen by proxy syndrome and as a result, had her daughter believe that she was suffering from multiple medical conditions from when she was as young as 3 months old. She also had Gypsy believe that she was paralysed from the waist down and as a result also committed finance frauds by using her daughter's medical condition to gain access to free-living centres, all paid trips and medical airlifts. Neighbours, friends and even Gypsy's father was shocked when he learnt that Gypsy was not a sick child and that she could walk without support when Gypsy was found by the police after her mother's dead body was found in their residence. The show will document why the murder took place and who killed DeeDee in addition to showing the trauma that Gypsy went through in her life. The show will premiere on March 20.
