'American Song Contest' SemiFinals 1: Fans declare Kentucky's Jordan Smith 'national treasure'

Smith spoke about how he wrote the song 'Sparrow' within 7 minutes, seeing that it came 'through' him

If you've been keeping up with 'American Song Contest', then you know that the show has entered a crunch period, with round 1 of the semifinals here. Each artist will be singing their original number, performed during the qualifier rounds. But, out of the 11 performances in the Semifinals 1, the jury will only send one artist to the final rounds.

However, the audience also has the power to vote for four other performances. Taking on the stage in Semi-Finals 1 are Alabama – Ni/Co, Colorado – Riker Lynch, Kentucky – Jordan Smith, Massachusetts – Jared Lee, Michigan – Ada LeAnn, Montana – Jonah Prill, New Hampshire – MARi, Oklahoma – AleXa, Rhode Island – Hueston, Washington – Allen Stone, Wyoming – Ryan Charles. The first to perform was Jordan Smith, who was set to sing his original number, 'Sparrow'.

Before going on stage, Jordan spoke about what inspired him to write 'Sparrow'. As he explained, he is seldom a morning person, but yet, woke up at 7 am and wrote the song within 7 minutes, as he noted that the song came through him. He also spoke about how people have reached out to him, saying that his song saved them. Now, he wants to stay on the 'American Song Contest' stage and give the best for Kentucky.

Going into his second performance, fans felt this version of the song was much more powerful than the first time he sang the number. "Sparrow is a beautiful song and that was a very good performance - if a Ballad has to get thru I might not mind this one #americansongcontest" tweeted a fan. "#americansongcontest Act 1 - Semi 1 Kentucky - Jordan Smith - "Sparrow" 2nd time around was much better the act have more seprtial they the 1st go around My Score - 6" noted a fan. "Jordan Smith is such a national treasure! #americansongcontest" said a fan. "I love it when you can understand every word of the song! Great diction, Jordan! #AmericanSongContest" added a fan.
