'Preacher' season 4 episode 6 preview: God unleashes his fury as Jesus and Hitler divvy up souls in 'The Lost Apostle'

AMC's 'sneak peek' trailers and photos for Preacher's upcoming episode show The Saint dragging Jesse along on his mission to kill God, as Tulip and Cassidy don disguises to get to Jesse. Meanwhile God gets Herr Starr to launch Phase 2 of the Apocalypse and Jesus and Hitler argue about souls.

In the end moments of the last episode of 'Preacher', Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper) was in a tight spot. He was staring down the barrel of The Saint's (Graham McTavish) gun and was shot by Eugene (Ian Coletti) in his back. Though Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) were on their way from the Middle East to Australia, will they get to him in time in this week's episode? And when will the makers of the show realize that driving a car from the Middle East to Australia is, um, impossible?

Titled 'The Lost Apostle', the AMC site reveals that in the upcoming episode, the Saint will have the Preacher on a tight leash, "leading him straight towards an explosive end". Meanwhile, Tulip and Cassidy will assume fake identities to track Jesse. We are relishing the idea of these two roleplaying and conning their way across Australia to find Jesse. But judging from Tulip's tense stance in the pictures released before the episode airs, it doesn't seem like the journey will be a cakewalk.

In one of the trailers released by AMC, it seems that Jesse is in for a spot of torture at the hands of the Saint. But the Saint also has another agenda - kill God. Phase 2 of the Apocalypse, 'Escalation' is underway, and nuclear warheads seem to be involved.

After going missing for last week's episode, God (Mark Harelik) is back and how. Herr Starr finally confesses to him that he has lost "the Christ child" aka Humperdoo, realizing that God already knows this. The realization is a bit late given how God's omniscience is kinda well-known. Duh.  God also goes into the full 'Heaven Hath No Fury' mode in the end moments of the trailer.

Cassidy is in his usual 'shade-loving' form, sunglasses and umbrella in place, as he waits for something or someone in a dusty porch in the middle of nowhere. Fortunately, the car still seems to be around.

Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) is not skimping on the sun protection in 'The Lost Apostle' (AMC)

And how could we forget Heaven's emissary, the dutiful Jesus Christ, attending his first Apocalypse conference with Hitler representing Hell. Since the Apocalypse is underway, and dead bodies will be the norm, there is the small matter of the souls that will have to be housed in either Heaven or Hell.

As the second trailer for the episode shows, divvying up souls is no easy task. Jesus wants every soul that repents to belong to Heaven, while Hitler makes the theologically sound argument that "if someone were to start a World War after nearly destroying a whole people", but then repented just before dying, there was not much logic to sending that someone to Heaven. But when Jesus refuses to budge on this point, Hitler threatens to take back "the homosexuals". Herr Starr is annoyed, ordering the two to just get on with it because the Apocalypse was well underway.

'Preacher' season 4, episode 6 'The Lost Apostle' will air on Sunday on AMC.
