Representing the defendant in the State vs Emily Dodson (Gayle Rankin) case of Charlie Dodson's death has become one of the toughest things for lawyer E.B. (John Lithgow) as it tests him not only as a lawyer but also as someone who holds a moral responsibility to help and represent a client completely. For instance, in the last episode of 'Perry Mason', we saw Emily being forced to confess to a crime that she didn't commit all because of a mistake that she had made.

The fact that she had cheated on her husband with a man who was a part of the team that planned the kidnapping of her son makes her the prime suspect in the case. The powers also hope for the truth of the case to be buried under this false assumption and do everything to prove that Emily is not only an accessory but also a perpetrator of the crime. Detectives Ennis (Andrew Howard) and Holcomb (Eric Lange) have clearly crossed the line by having Officer Paul Drake (Chris Chalk) write a false report in the case of the death of the three kidnappers. The fact that there was a fourth person involved, who had not only taken the ransom money but might as well have murdered Charlie is buried because of this false report and the one to bring this fact to light would be detective Perry Mason.

The promo also shows Mason convince E.B. and others that there was a fourth person who was involved in the kidnapping and the killing, but the cops' reports – which Mason calls a fairytale (for a crime) – doesn't mention evidence that proves the same. Case in point is Drake's observation that the bloodstain went up towards the terrace and not the other way around.

The promo also shows E.B. visiting a bruised Emily at the jail and telling her that she will stand up for herself and fight for herself. He is there to support Emily and this emotional support helps Emily believe and hope in truth coming out as well. E.B.'s character may see the biggest change this episode after he having a meltdown about investors pulling out of his firm. Can this resolve stay strong, however?

Then there is Sister Alice who seems extremely disturbed at the moment because she had just told a bunch of journalists that Charlie Dodson will rise again. In the promo, she repeats the same, and this time she does it in front of a lot more people. We also see her mother try to convince Alice that she is not mentally disturbed but Alice seems to understand that something is off about the entire situation.

New episodes of 'Perry Mason' drops on Sunday at 9 pm ET on HBO.
