#DisneyAdaptPercyJackson trends as 'Percy Jackson' fans demand TV adaptation from Disney while Broadway musical makes waves
Rick Riordan's 'Percy Jackson & The Olympians' book series was a great part of our childhood.
For too long, we have been desperately waiting to see the books get the recognition they deserve but now it seems that time has finally come with a possible TV series on the way and a musical version playing on Broadway for a limited 16-week run.
Titled 'The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical', the musical adaptation of Riordan's hit book series has gained some attention from critics and fans for its rockstar take on the world of 'Percy Jackson'. However, fans are still desperate to see a faithful adaptation of the books on screen.
Though the books have plenty of potential to dazzle on screen, the film adaptations of the series have been spectacular failures. Fans never really warmed up to Chris Columbus' 2010 film 'Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief' and its 2013 sequel 'Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters' was even less of a hit.
Both movies were criticized by fans for changing things from the comics but now a new rumor has surfaced online that Disney is planning on making an accurate-to-the-books TV show based on the adventures of the titular demigod and his friends.
The fandom has erupted with joy at the possibility and they're busy petitioning Disney on Twitter to take up the project. Here are some of the tweets:
