LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: King Viserys is one of the most notable characters in the HBO series, 'House of the Dragon.' When Paddy Considine's character took his last breath in the series, fans were extremely heartbroken. Considine even agreed that Viserys "was the best character he played" on screen. It was no secret that 'House of the Dragon' will be a blockbuster with its fantastic storyline. However, its predecessor, 'Game of Thrones' had raised the bar high and expectations needed to be met as the creators promised there would be "more dragons," during their promotional interviews before the series aired.

From the very start of the series, Considine's Viserys was shown to have a weird infection which was taking a toll on the king's health. Even though the creators introduced the ill health of the king at the beginning when it was time for fans to bid adieu to Considine in the series, it still hit hard. Speaking of hardship, the death scene of the actor in the series impacted Considine and his family to a great extent for which the actor chose not to watch the eight episodes of the first season. According to Collider, during a recent interview with 'The Adam Buxton Podcast,' Considine reflected on his emotions about the death scene of the actor's character in the series.

He said, "I didn’t watch episode eight but my wife had watched it, and my daughter, and they were pretty upset with it. My wife said, 'Just watch the end. Years ago, I’d watched my dad die of cancer and he just went downhill rapidly from being diagnosed to being on death's door. You know, he became skeletal so rapidly. So, when [my wife] showed me that end thing and my face came up I just burst into tears because I looked the image of my dad when he was dying, the image of him, and it was shocking. It was really, really shocking to me. I’d put so much of my mum’s characteristics into this character, Viserys, but when I saw that I thought 'That’s my dad' and it was terrifying. So, it was pretty impactful stuff. The King Viserys character in 'House of the Dragon,' I think that’s probably the greatest character I’ve ever played in my eyes. The story was right. The character was right."

The first season received highly positive reviews, with praise towards its character development, writing, score and actor performances particularly of Considine, Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, Milly Alcock, and Olivia Cooke. The series premiered on August 21, 2022, with the first season consisting of ten episodes. Five days after its premiere, the series was renewed for a second season although there is no confirmed return date for the second season.

You can watch 'House of the Dragon' Season 1 on HBO Max or Disney+.
