The Battle of Alamance is finally here. History buffs will know that this was the final battle in the "War of Regulation" where Governor Tryon's militia opened fire on the Regulators with their cannons and defeated them.

We see this in the promos as one of Governor Tryon's men pats a gleaming cannon and says, "well, the insurgents wanted a fight and they shall have one," while Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) looks at the weapon with horror.

We also see Brianna (Sophie Skelton) riding with all haste to the battlefront to warn Claire and Jamie about the outcome of the fight ahead. There is also not much they can do without changing history because, as Brianna tells Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie, the battle is considered to be the "spark of the American Revolution".

Ever since the trailer for Season 5 was released, fans have been speculating about the moment Jamie will don the hated uniform of the British and become a "Redcoat". As a staunch enemy of the British, the uniform is everything that Jamie has fought against. But since he is in Governor Tryon's debt, he has no choice but to put it on and face Murtagh on the battlefield. We see Murtagh full of vim as he inspires his fellow Regulators. However, the next scene also sees the Regulators running for cover among trees as the cannons blast gunfire at them.

Even though the promo doesn't have Roger Mackenzie (Richard Rankin), he will be a big part of the episode since it is called 'The Ballad of Roger Mac'. According to the official summary, Brianna will remember some critical details pertaining to the Battle, "forcing Roger to cross behind enemy lines".  The synopsis also says that Roger will find himself in grave danger.

In the sneak peek photograph, it is clear that both Claire and Brianna will be at the frontlines of this battle as medics. The synopsis says that Claire will have some difficulty with the Brown clan that Jamie recruited heavily from in Episode 3 this season. It says that "Claire's attempts to treat the wounded are threatened by the volatile Brown brothers." It seems like her new-fashioned ideas about how to treat wounds could find detractors.

We already know that the Brown clan have read "Dr Rawling's (aka Claire's) Advice" column and found it "vulgar".

But all these threads will pale in comparison to the trauma Roger will have to face. Book readers will know what they need to steel themselves for during this battle episode. In an unfortunate incident, Roger Mackenzie gets tangled up in, inadvertently, with someone familiar when he is making his way back to the British side, after negotiating a truce with the Regulators. This also leads to him being branded as a traitor. For Roger Mackenzie, it is an encounter he will never forget.

'Outlander' on Sunday, March 29 at 8:00 pm ET/PT, is available on STARZ, the STARZ app, and STARZ On Demand.
