In an appropriately titled episode, 'Outlander' Season 5 Episode 2 'Between Two Fires' sees Jamie Fraser forced to hunt his godfather Murtagh Fitzgibbons on Governor Tryon's orders. He is "aided" by the zealous Lieutenant Hamilton Knox, who questions suspects harshly, using maximum force. Since many of the suspects are fellow-Scots who believe in a just cause, Jamie is forced to wonder if he's on the right side of history.

In the trailer, we see  Lieutenant Hamilton Knox draw his sword on a suspect as he trembles in rage while asking, "Where is Murtagh Fitzgibbons?", while Jamie looks on tense and on edge at this excessive show of force.

We see two captured Regulators speak to Jamie from behind bars who tells him, "There is a war being waged. We believe in our cause." To this Jamie responds cryptically, "And I believe in mine." As we know, Jamie's No. 1 priority is to keep his clan and land (Frazer's Ridge) safe, which requires him to bend to Governor Tryon's will for now.

Claire Fraser is also thinking about helping the residents of Fraser's Ridge from the other danger in the 1700s -- germs. When a resident dies of an ailment, Claire feels conflicted knowing she could have saved him with modern medicines that she could concoct, even though it would be messing with history.

In the trailer, she tells Brianna MacKenzie, "I can't watch someone die like this knowing that I could have saved his life!" The next scene shows Claire making some sort of medicinal mix and Brianna has only one comment: "Isn't this playing God?"

Claire with her advanced knowledge of medicine and pathogens can make their lives better but only marginally. We see her commenting on this saying, "I'm doing everything I can to make this a safer time but it's not."

We also see a brief glimpse of Murtagh who tells two revolutionaries that they will be ready when it is time to fight. This means that it won't be long before Murtagh and Jamie have to face each other on the battlefield and make some difficult choices.

'Outlander' Season 5 Episode 2 'Between Two Fires' airs February 23 at 8:00 pm ET/PT on STARZ, the STARZ app, and STARZ On Demand.
