'Outlander' season 4 premiere changed this detail from the book and here is why
Ronald D. Moore, the show's executive producer, talked about the change during an appearance at the Savannah College of Art and Design Film Festival.
Season 4 of 'Outlander' premiered on November 4 and fans of Diana Gabaldon's best-selling series were quick to notice a minor detail that had been changed in the show.
In the last few seconds of the opening scene, Stephen Bonnet (Ed Speleers) took Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) cherished possession, her wedding ring, from Jamie (Sam Heughan). In the books, Bonnet steals something from Claire, but not her wedding ring.
According to Celebrity insider, in the book 'Drums of Autumn', Bonnet steals a gold band from Claire's former husband, Fran Randall (Tobias Menzies), who was last seen in season 3. His appearance in season 3 was right before Claire went back in time to reunite with Jamie.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Ronald D. Moore, the show's executive producer, talked about the change during an appearance at the Savannah College of Art and Design Film Festival.
“Are we all friends here? Do we all know the books? The plain gold band wouldn’t be noticeable as like, ‘Oh that’s clearly my mother’s ring,’ whereas the other one clearly would. So that’s kind of why we made that change," Moore explained to the students.
Moore screened the premiere of season 4 at the event and talked about it. Several cast members including Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Sophie Skelton, John Bell, and Richard Rankin joined him.
Season 4 will follow the lives of Jamie and Claire as they start afresh in the American colonies. The couple will not only have to face Bonnet but will also have to try to adjust to their new lives when it comes to questions of morality, such as slavery, reported Celebrity insider. How their lives will unfold will be unveiled only in the upcoming episodes.
The next episode of 'Outlander' titled 'Do no harm' will air on November 11 on Starz.
