Showtime is all set to roll out another sports documentary after 'Ringside' and this time, it's 'Outcry', a riveting tale of Greg Kelley, a Texas high school football star, the controversy following his conviction for child molestation, and the complex journey of finding out the truth and serving justice after his sentencing. It was slated to release initially on April 3, but the network eventually pushed it to July. Here's what we know about 'Outcry' ahead of its release.

Release date

'Outcry' releases July 5 at 10 PM ET/PT on Showtime.

Plot

Showtime's official synopsis reads, "A five-part documentary series examining the gripping story of high school football star Greg Kelley and a quest for truth and justice. Few people experience the momentum that Kelley had going into his senior year in Leander, Texas. That all changed when he was convicted of sexual assault of a four-year-old boy, and sentenced to 25 years in prison with no possibility for parole. But a groundswell of support emerged for Kelley, calling into question the investigation, the prosecution's tactics, and ultimately, the validity of the conviction."

Director

Emmy-winning filmmaker Pat Kondelis serves as the producer and director. Kondelis won the Emmy for 'Disgraced' (2017) which deals with the 2003 murder of Baylor University basketball player Patrick Dennehy by his friend Carlton Dotson.

News

Talking about the facts Kondelis uncovered while working on the documentary, the director, in an interview with Austin Chronicle, said: "Even when we found something that was completely egregious, it was still shocking, but there was always this sense of, 'I don't know everything. There is still information that is out there, that I haven't seen, and that I don't know.'" Talking about the creation, he added: "I got obsessed with the origin of this. Where did it come from? How did it happen? And it comes from the child's outcry. That's the original moment that begins this six-year-long journey."
