Oscars 2024 fans celebrate as Christopher Nolan wins his first Academy award for 'Oppenheimer'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Director Christopher Nolan won his first Oscar at the 96th Academy Awards. He clinched the Best Director award for shaping the epic biographical thriller 'Oppenheimer'.
He produced and wrote the movie starring Cillian Murphy as theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, who played a key role in the secret Manhattan Project in a bid to develop the world's first atomic weapons.
Iconic filmmaker Steven Spielberg presented the Academy Award to Nolan. The 'Inception' director has been in the film industry for more than two decades but he had to wait until Sunday to register his first win on the much-respected stage.
Before 'Oppenheimer' he had five nominations during his career, earning nods for movies like 'Memento' and 'Inception'. He also earned a nomination for Best Achievement in Directing for the 2018 hit 'Dunkirk'.
After the much-awaited win, Nolan's fans took to X and celebrated his Oscar triumph.

Christopher Nolan reflects on his Oscars 2024 win
Christopher Nolan showed gratitude to all the people who supported him in his journey. In his acceptance speech, the 53-year-old said, "Movies are just a little bit over 100 years old," adding, "We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here." The director further noted, "But to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me."
While holding the trophy in his hands, Nolan thanked his wife and said, "The incredible Emma Thomas, producer of all our films and all our children."
He also appreciated his cast, "Matt Damon, Robert, Emily, Florence, so many others, all the top of their game, led by the incredible Cillian Murphy." Nolan further said thanks to Universal Pictures chairman Donna Langley "for seeing the potential in this."
The Oscar-winning director concluded his speech by noting, "Thank you to those who have believed in me my whole career."

Christopher Nolan's film 'Oppenheimer' received seven Oscars at the 96th Academy Awards.
