Lucy learns a startling truth in Episode 5
In Episode 5 of 'Orphan Black: Echoes,' young Kira Manning (August Winter) reveals a startling truth about her family, stating that her mother is a product of illegal cloning.
However, Professor Eleanor Miller (Rya Kihlstedt) attributes her groundbreaking Alzheimer’s research to her mother. As the episode unfolds, the emotional tension between Kira and Eleanor culminates in a tender moment and they share a kiss.
Kira informs Eleanor that the printed heart has started beating. Eleanor then expresses her pride in Kira's achievement of successfully printing a functional heart.
Eleanor, who desires children but learns she may be unable to have any, is supported by Kira, who steps in and gives birth to their son, Lucas (Jaeden Noel).
Lucas is the boy in the picture that Kira had shown to Lucy. After Eleanor's death, Kira created a printout of Eleanor, but it resulted in Lucy. The mark on Lucy's arm is actually a matching UV tattoo that Eleanor had gotten with Kira.
At present, Lucy clarifies that she is not a replacement for Eleanor. Kira (Keeley Hawes) apologizes and vows to make things right. Despite this, Lucy remains angry and questions why Kira created Jules. Confused, Kira reveals that she only ever printed Lucy and then deactivated the machine.
So, while it is revealed how Lucy was created, the mystery of who made Jules remains unsolved. It seems likely that Kira made Jules but is lying to Lucy because she has a soft spot for her. Kira may not want Lucy to think even worse of her.
There is also the possibility that someone else from the Additive Foundation created Jules with their own hidden motives. Given the Foundation's complex and secretive nature, it's plausible that an individual or faction within the organization might have had their own reasons for producing Jules.
Can Jules ever find her truth?
In the past few episodes, the doctors have already informed Jules that she experienced brain hypoxia, which led to memory loss. Despite this, she cannot recall any specifics about the incident. Following this, a new family comes to adopt her and she meets her foster mother, Neva (Alexandra Castillo).
However, it becomes obvious that her new family is hiding something from her, and she decides to uncover the truth. Since the situation might involve illegal procedures, it’s unlikely they will let her learn what really happened.
To keep her from remembering or discovering too much, they even give her medication to help her forget things.
If the family finds out that Jules wants to learn about her true identity, they might take drastic measures to prevent her from discovering the truth. They could even go so far as to try to destroy any evidence or information related to her past to keep her in the dark.
Meanwhile, Lucy is already suspicious and believes that someone is manipulating or controlling Jules. It seems that someone from the Additive Foundation might kill her before she learns the truth.
