'Òlòtūré': Release date, plot, cast, trailer and all you need to know about Netflix's Nigerian crime drama

Netflix's ever-expanding impressive slate of international crime thrillers has a new addition in the form of the Nigerian film 'Òlòtūré'. It revolves around a journalist's deep dive into the world of human trafficking and prostitution, the film had originally been released back in 2019 before screening at Carthage Film Festival. Every bit as gritty and brutal and the underworld of exploiting sex workers can be imagined to be, 'Òlòtūré' is clearly not for the faint-hearted. Here's all you need to know about it.
Release date
'Òlòtūré' had previously released on October 31, 2019, in Tunisia, before it hit festivals. The film premieres on Netflix globally on Friday, October 20.
Plot
According to the official synopsis provided by Netflix, "In Lagos, a journalist goes undercover as a prostitute to expose human trafficking. What she finds is a world of exploited women and ruthless violence." Our titular protagonist Òlòturé is described as a young and naive Nigerian journalist who goes undercover for the task. In her attempt to expose the dangerous and brutal underworld of human trafficking, she unfurls the recruitment and horrid exploitation of sex workers overseas.

Cast
Sharon Ooja plays the role of the namesake journalist. Beverly Osuas plays Peju, Ada Ameh appears as Titi, Omowumi Dada as Linda, Blossom Chukwujekwu as Emeka, Omoni Oboli as Alero, Segun Arinze as Theo, Adebukola Oladipupo as Beauty, Ikechukwu Onunaku as Chuks, Kemi Lala Akindoju as Blessing, Omawumi as Sandra and finally, Sambasa Nzeribe as Victor.
Creator
'Òlòtūré' has been directed by the nationally acclaimed young filmmaker Kenneth Gyang from a screenplay by Yinka Ogun and Craig Freimond.
