With the 'Black Widow' movie coming up in  May, it's time for her comic-book counterpart had her own series again. Marvel has announced a new 'Black Widow' series, releasing in April, written by Kelly Thompson and drawn by Elena Casagrande.

The series will see the famed Avenger and spy unraveling a mystery that will require her unique skills. Marvel has released a solicitation for #1:

"Bestselling Eisner-nominated writer Kelly Thompson (CAPTAIN MARVEL; DEADPOOL) and rising star artist Elena Casagrande (CATWOMAN) launch a new BLACK WIDOW series that changes everything! Natasha Romanoff has been a spy almost as long as she’s been alive. And she’s never stopped running, whether she was working for the good guys…or the bad. But Natasha’s world is about to be upended. Beyond San Francisco’s Golden Gate lies a mystery that only the Marvel Universe’s greatest spy can solve. Don’t miss the heartbreaking thrill ride of 2020!"

Writer Kelly Thompson, who has written for Captain Marvel, Rogue & Gambit, and Deadpool, told IGN that she plans to explore the duality of the Black Widow's identity. "I’m very interested in the duality of Natasha… so look for that to be a recurring theme in this first arc as she struggles against that and leans into it."

Elena Casagrande, the artist, has drawn for Batgirl, Wonder Woman, and Catwoman. Kelly Thompson spoke about Elena Casagrande's art. "Elena is a super talent, but I think this is her strongest work to date. It’s incredibly bold and confident…which is exactly what a Nat book demands."

While Black Widow is on the current Avengers roster, the series will be a standalone story unconnected to the larger events of the Marvel Universe - for reasons that will apparently be made clear in the series' first issue.

The last Black Widow comic series was a mini-series that ended in May, written by Jen & Sylvia Soska, drawn by Flaviano. More recently, she has been seen in space with the Avengers, donning a customized version of the Iron Man armor as the 'War Widow'

'Black Widow' #1 releases in April 2020.
