'New Amsterdam' Season 2 Episode 4: Will Valentina Castro and Helen Sharpe butt heads again?

In the season premiere, we saw that Valentina has been treating Max for cancer and that she was extremely successful with him, and the method she is implementing allows patients to be energetic and active, unlike chemo.

Season 2 of 'New Amsterdam' has not been particularly great for anyone at the hospital, except for Floyd (Jocko Sims). While Max (Ryan Eggold) has been struggling with his new normal after the death of his wife, and Lauren (Janet Montgomery) has been struggling with the physical pain post the accident having decided to not take any drugs, Helen (Freema Agyeman) has been struggling to understand who she is.

In the previously aired Episode 3 of the ongoing season, we see her telling Lauren that she had felt like she had a better understanding of who she is, before the accident. But now, having broken up with Akash (Sendhil Ramamurthy) and having lost half of the oncology department to Dr. Valentina (Ana Villafañe), she is feeling a little lost. She is still the deputy Medical Director of New Amsterdam, though, and she has been focusing on her patients rather than publicity for the hospital, which definitely seems to be giving her joy.

In the season premiere, we saw that Valentina has been treating Max for cancer and that she was extremely successful with him, and the method she is implementing allows patients to be energetic and active, unlike chemo. However, because of her complicated history with Helen, Valentina told her that she would not continue treating Max or anyone who comes to New Amsterdam for cancer unless she is made co-chair of the oncology department, and Helen being the good friend and concerned doctor that she is, agreed to this term.

Helen has been trying to find joy in putting her patients first, as we saw in the previous episode, where she went against Max's wishes and stood up to a powerful company for the sake of a sick patient. And, it seems like these actions will be repeated in the upcoming Season 2 Episode 4 as well, where we see that the patient wants to stop treatment for her disease. While Max is deadset against this, Helen seems to be of the opinion that the patient's choice must be respected. However, the patient is not hers, but that of Valentina's, and that will definitely bring back some old wounds for both the doctors.

Neither of them seems happy with the other based on the trailer, and it remains to be seen how they will come to an understanding for the sake of the patient.

Don't forget to watch Season 2 Episode 4 of 'New Amsterdam', which airs on Tuesday, October 15, on NBC to see if Valentina and Helen are up for another round of professional disagreement.
