'New Amsterdam' Season 2 Episode 2: A Max-Helen romance may be inevitable, but it is not going to happen anytime soon

Season 2 for Max will be all about finding himself outside of his marriage to Georgia and once again discovering the joys of life

Season 2 of 'New Amsterdam' premiered with the shocking revelation that Georgia (Lisa O'Hare) is no more.

In the accident that severely injured Lauren (Janet Mongomery) and Helen (Freema Agyeman), Max (Ryan Eggold) lost his wife, and three months later, is deep in the throes of depression.

We see that Max still sees Georgia and feels her presence in their apartment, even as he raises their daughter Luna as a single father. He loved his wife deeply and the absence that he feels is equally intense.

Since the very beginning, however, we have known that Helen and Max are going to have a romantic future together, and it has been impossible to ignore their chemistry thus far.

Even though there is a huge distance between them because of the wall Max has erected between them, we know that they are, in fact, the endgame. There have just been too many indicators to ignore—Max and Helen have crossed many professional boundaries thus far; Helen has been yearning to be a mother and Max is a newly single father.;Unlike his equation with everyone else, Max seems comfortable asking for help when it is from Helen; As of the previous episode, Helen gave up half of her department to another doctor, just to ensure that Max's cancer treatment goes smoothly.

And, yet, we will not see Max and Helen get together anytime soon, possibly not for the entirety of season 2.

Max, much like Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) of 'This is Us', is a standup human, who will not let anything tarnish the memory of his wife. He is also the kind whose morals would not allow him to cheat on his wife, which is possibly why the writers had to kill off Georgia.

Our best bet is that Season 2 for Max will be all about finding himself outside of his marriage to Georgia, and finding the joys of life once again, be it through his daughter or his work.

What we will see for sure is Helen standing by his side and ensuring that he has someone to lean on when needed. This friendship is potentially what would offer the cornerstone for their future relationship.

We are excited to see how their relationship is explored on 'New Amsterdam', starting with the upcoming Season 2 Episode 2 of the NBC show, titled 'The Big Picture'.
